Couple Yoga: Pretty As a Portrait
Husband and Wife Yoga On and Off the Mat!
Greetings!

My company, Yoga To Have Fun, is all about using yoga exercises to open up communication and strengthen relationships within the family.  I started this company based on the principle that after yoga, people are more centered and focused, allowing them to better communicate, listen, and support each other.

Most often when we say family, it implies children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  But, let's not forget about a big part of the family - the husband and wife.  Hello?!  Without them, none of us would be here!

In his book, Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community, Robert Putnam found that married partners engaged in an average of less than an hour a week of conversation. Now, who really needs the yoga more - the child who has trouble focusing or the silent adults? Obviously,  it's a stiff competition, and they both do!

At the same time, one of the top theories that I learned at business school was that the strategy and tone of any organization starts at the top.  The CEO sets the attitude and approach towards business for their employees and each of the products.  We see this at Southwest Airlines, where Herb Kelleher was continually leading casual business meetings and cracking jokes.  Thus, we have Southwest flight attendants wearing khakis, teasing each other over the intercom, and the clients having a fun, plus valuable, experience.

So, if we have couples who don't talk to each other, and don't pay attention to each other, what are the children to think, and more importantly, what is the state of our future?

Couple Yoga: Pretty As a Portrait
One amazing yoga couple that I know is Marlize Joubert and Robert Sturman.  Robert does amazing art photography, and Marlize is a yoga instructor. I just walked out of class with them, and the flattery and pride that YFF DVD CoverRobert has for Marlize is out of this world.  It would be wonderful if we could all walk around all day with someone praising us for our skill and beauty in each waking breathe, as Robert does for Marlize.

This couple practices together regularly, as well as working together out of their home.  It is obvious his love for her extends beyond the yoga studio.   This is his personal quote attached to his art about his wife:

"Grant me a lovely woman and I will marry her, make beautiful art with her and cherish her all the days of my life" - Robert Sturman

Recently, I had Robert create my portrait, h
ere in Dancer Pose, overlooking the Santa Monica mountains, in the direction of Malibu and Santa Barbara.  Robert takes a pYFF DVD Coverolaroid camera, and while the film is still warm, he moves the colors in an amazing way around the page.

As you can see, he does incredible work, and I enthusiastically encourage to you get a portrait done yourself, or give one as a gift.  His prices are very reasonable, and the work is very eye-catching and outstanding.

I even now use this portrait as the background for my business cards, and I get compliments on them each time I spread them around.  For more information on Robert, including how to commission his work, check out www.robertsturmanstudio.com

Husband and Wife Yoga On and Off the Mat

Tabby Another amazing yoga couple is Tabby Biddle and Lee Schneider, where Tabby has even done a video testimonial about her experience with yoga and working with my dvds below.

This couple actually met on a yoga retreat two years ago, and haven't missed a week practicing together since.  One can just see the mutual admiration they have for each other, as well as the trust and respect in every step they take.

Both working from home while owning their own businesses, as well as often working together on professional projects, they use yoga as a way to connect even deeper than the many hours a day that they spend together.  If this isn't a true testimonial of the power of yoga, I don't know what is!

Here is a clip of Tabby having fun last weekend in Will Rogers State Park, as Lee takes her picture, and then together they worked on the audio track.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2fS2b4gQdA Thanks Tabby, for your great endorsement!

The photo above is also taken by Lee.  As you can see, they make beautiful work together!
Ingrid Von Burg is a yoga teacher and owner of her own production/distribution company focusing on yoga dvd products, called Yoga To Have Fun. She has recently completed two products - Yoga for Families and Yoga for Grandparents that encourage people of the same family to work-out together. By allowing ourselves to focus and center, we are better able to communicate, and when we do that with our family, we receive the support and confidence from the people we love the most.
