What Are We Doing? Tweeting!
If you're wondering what is going on with the Fondren Express, there is yet another way you can stay in the loop. Last week, the trolley joined Twitter, the 140-character-per-post short message service that asks the question "what are you doing?" Operations manager Wes Holsapple says social networking has exploded in the last year. "We feel," he adds, "this is a great way to keep our riders informed and help promote the businesses and organizations who make it possible to do what we do best." The goal, Holsapple says, is to provide a glimpse into the daily workings of the trolley, and to show potential charter clients the many possibilities of using the trolley. Special sales, coupons or other offers from our merchant partners will also be highlighted in our daily postings.

Jackson, Changzhou...Changzhou, Jackson
Two cultures found a similarity in their goals this month
as Governor Haley Barbour welcomed a delegation from Changzhou,
China during a trade and
investment forum in Jackson.
The event was co-hosted by U.S.
- China Chamber of Commerce, The Municipal Government of Changzhou, and the
State of Mississippi. The Chinese delegation consisted of over 30
members, one of the largest groups from China
to Mississippi
to date. The forum was held at the Jackson Convention Complex, which was
followed by a reception at the Governor's Mansion. Forum participants
took the Fondren Express from the Convention Center to the Mansion, and the
guests from China
experienced the ride and posed with the trolley and took photos.
Governor Barbour said during the event that Mississippi's
trade situation has grown considerably. "Even in a recession," he added, "Mississippi saw export sales go up 16
percent in the last quarter compared to the same quarter last year." Siva Yam,
president of the U.S.-China Chamber Commerce, said Changzhou
and Mississippi
are growing business centers.

Portico Jackson: June Issue Features Food
Can you taste it? We have been salivating for days to get our
hands on the latest issue of Portico Jackson Magazine, whose June focus is
food! Publisher Karen Gilder says "lots of recipes, great food, entertaining, party
planning, and cool kitchens." This month's
feature is a story on three separate parties that will include menus, recipes, and
playlists. Mississippi's
own Wyatt Waters is the arts & culture focus for June. Gilder says they photographed
a cover, but then Waters called from the coast, telling her he had sketched out
a cover idea. Gilder says it looks a lot like her grandmother's old kitchen, so
she's titled it "Annie Bell's Kitchen."
It's also the June issue
that will be taken to the 30th annual Mississippi Picnic in New York City. Portico Jackson will once again sponsor the Portico
Jackson Artists' Pavilion. This is the magazine's second year to sponsor the
Pavilion, an idea initiated by Gilder and her team. Twelve artists from Mississippi will be in New York displaying their work.
Pick up Portico Jackson, on
newsstands June 1, and visit the magazine online at PorticoJackson.com.
