Trolley to Give Free Rides To Polls Tuesday
The
Fondren Express Trolley will do its part this election day to help voters get
to the polls with rides all day on Tuesday, May 19. The free service begins just after 7am and
except for lunchtime, will run through 7pm.
The route will cover the North
State Street corridor from downtown Fondren to the
Council Circle
area, along with portions of Woodland Hills as well as the campuses of St. Dominic's Hospital, UMC and Millsaps College.
Fondren
Express owner Alan French said the rides are not an endorsement for any one
candidate or party, but are simply the trolley's way of promoting
patriotism. "We look forward to serving
our neighborhood on Tuesday," French added, "and hope that our residents will
take advantage of this opportunity."

Club Moves Forward With Goals Exceeded
Thanks
to an outpouring of generosity from the community, The Boys and Girls
Club of Central Mississippi is breathing a sigh of relief. The
organization received pledges totaling $500,000, the amount needed to
keep open all six of their clubs in the region. The Fondren Express was
proud to have been of service for a recent event aimed at assisting the
club with their fund drive.
The Club sends special thanks to Governor Haley Barbour,
who has directed social services block grant funds to assist the
organization. Though goals were met this time, ongoing support will be
needed to avoid future shortfalls.
BGCCM President/CEO Billy Redd said "the success of our youth development programs is due to our
long-term, sustained involvement with these young people, and in
just the same way, we need the long-term, sustained support of
our community."

Read All About It! JFP Partners With Trolley
The Fondren Express is proud to welcome our newest partner aboard - the Jackson Free Press. With an agreement signed earlier this month, the trolley and the alt-weekly will help promote each other's businesses and look for ways to partner at area events. Fondren Express operations manager Wes Holsapple said the Jackson Free Press provides a much needed service to the area, and the trolley is proud to be associated with them. JFP publisher Todd Stauffer remarked that after seeing the trolley pass the window of their Fondren office everyday, it just seemed a natural fit. He added "our partnership is long overdue." Look for the trolley ad each week in the Jackson Free Press, and pick up your copy of the JFP the next time you step on board!

Scooper Bowl Saturday This Weekend
 A
Jackson non-profit will open its gates this Saturday to a flock of
shoppers
for their 5th annual "Scooper Bowl" Flea Market & All-You-Can-Eat
Ice Cream Festival. Good Samaritan Center at 114 Millsaps Avenue will
allow early bird admission for $5 at 7 AM, while those who sleep in can
still enjoy the fest from 9am-2pm. Executive Director Kathy Clem says
that the festival is a great way to raise awareness of The Good
Samaritan Center and their thrift store, NUTS, which is "Neat Used
Things for
Sale." In addition to the bargain merchandise, Good Sam's Scooper Bowl
boasts a kids' fun area, food, and all-you-can-eat ice cream courtesy
of Blue Bell Creameries.
The Good Samaritan Center is a
non-profit social service agency serving Hinds, Rankin, and Madison
Counties. The Center's mission is to assist low income families and
individuals in emergency situations. If you would like to know more
