Four receive freshmen PACE Award!
|
University College held the annual PACE Awards Ceremony, Saturday, March 31st. The PACE Awards were established to recognize and honor freshmen who excelled during their first semester at the University of Oklahoma. The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in four areas and is awarded to 1% of freshmen:
- Participation in recognized campus clubs and activities,
- Academic achievement with a minimum of 3.25 in 14 credit hours
- Community service either on campus or in the metro area, and
- Excellence in leadership positions on campus including residence life.

Dr. Carstarphen receives OU faculty service award
|
 Dr. Carstarphen received the Regents' Award for Superior Professional and University Service and Public Outreach. She was recognized for her dedication to her service to students and to the community. Dr. C and her husband served as faculty-in-residence in Couch Hall for four years as well as work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Bridges, and the Center for Children and Families. She also routinely includes work with these and other nonprofit organization in her PR Campaigns capstone courses. Dr. C is an associate professor of public relations and the director of the Gaylord College graduate program. Congratulations Dr. C!

Get the experience you need to get a job

 It's called "Catch 22." To get a job in media, you have to have worked in media. Ad directors and editors alike want to see resumes with real-world experience and clips to show what you can do. So if no one will hire you without experience, how do you get experience? Survey of Gaming and Interactive MediaJMC 4970-141 May Intersession, May 14-June 8 Monday-Friday, 1 - 3:10 pm Instructor is Bryan Carr ( bcarr@ou.edu) The course will cover the historical development and current trends in video games and interactive media, including the cultural issues that surround them, academic and theoretical approaches to video game study, and careers for JMC and other majors in the field (to name just a few things). Web Design + StrategyArt 4970-340 / Block C July 10 to August 3 Monday - Friday, 8 am to 12:15 pm Instructor is Rachel Fujita ( rachel.fujita@ou.edu) This is the first time a class has been offered as a cross-list with the OU Visual Communication department and it promises to be something not to be missed. The course covers the process of conceptualizing, designing and producing functional web projects, utilizing industry standards and strategies including usability research, web design principles, information architecture and user testing. Technologies to be covered include HTML, CSS, Flash Catalyst, JavaScript. Must be a junior and have a working knowledge of Photoshop. A personal laptop is recommended.
