Graduation & Advising Deadlines

Classes have barely gotten into motion and it is already time to be advised for the Fall 2012 semester.
Graduation Checks Students planning to graduate either Spring 2012 or Summer 2012 need to get your application and paperwork filed for graduation stop by Friday, Jan. 27.
Stop by the office during walk-in hours: 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Applications for membership in the Gaylord Ambassadors student leadership group are due on Thursday, March 9th. Applications are available in the Student Services Center, room 2533, Gaylord Hall.
Applicants are required to provide their résumé and encouraged to include a letter of endorsement from a Gaylord College faculty or staff member.

Gaylord College Scholarship Apps
|
Gaylord College is now taking applications for 2012-2013 undergraduate scholarships awarded by the college. These scholarships are available only for JMC students.
Read more about the various scholarships offered by the Gaylord College. It is not necessary to specify which scholarship you are applying for, a committee of Gaylord College faculty members will determine the scholarships awarded based on your applications.
Last year more than $150,000 was awarded to students.

WCPJ now accepting applications for Fall 2012
| | A Washington Semester for Future Political Reporters
 The Politics & Journalism Semester is a program of the Washington Center for Politics & Journalism. The Center brings a dozen college student journalists, whose career goal is political reporting, to Washington each semester.
Students learn about campaign, governance and interest group politics in twice-weekly seminars, featuring political consultants and operatives, elected and party officials, and national political journalists. They receive practical experience and exposure to national politics as reporting interns in major Washington news bureaus.
Duration
Two 16-week classes are conducted each year, Fall (September to December) and Winter/Spring (February to May.) Note: There is no summer session.
$3,000 Stipend, No Tuition or Fees
Students each receive a $3,000 stipend to assist with the cost of locating and living in Washington, DC for four months. They pay no tuition or other fees. Students must make their own Washington living arrangements.
Student Obligations
Students accepted for a semester program are obligated to work full time for news bureaus to which they are assigned, and to attend all seminars.

Advertising group went to Asia over Winter Intersession
|
The international advertising class (JMC/MKT 4303) led by Professor Jim Avery visited advertising agencies in Hong Kong, the art museum in Macau, and agencies in both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

PRSSA Meeting and Mentor Program

PRSSA will host our kick-off meeting at 6 p.m. in Lindsey + Asp on January 24th. The meeting will be a chance for members to catch up with each other and find out their partners for the new mentorship program.
Mentorship Program for AD & PR:
It's not too late to get in on this resume builder! PRSSA is establishing a peer-to-peer mentorship program between upperclassmen and underclassmen in Public Relations and Advertising. If you are a Freshmen or Sophomore and would like to have a Junior/Senior guide you through your years at Gaylord, please pick up a Mentee application. Juniors and Seniors if you would like to pass down your wisdom to your successors, please apply to be a Mentor.
Applications for both may be picked up in L+A in front of room 2130 or online @ ouprssa.com.

SPICE Summer Study Abroad in Germany

Spend your summer in the heart of Europe studying public relations and communication with U.S. professors and students from several U.S. and European universities!
Gaylord College students have been participating in the SPICE program for four years and have successfully completed 6 credit hours of upper-division JMC electives in 8 weeks.
The 2012 program will run from June 12 to August 18, 2012 and will cost under $3,500 including 6 credit hours of tuition and fees, books, on-campus living for two months at University of Erfurt in Germany and a trip to Berlin.

 It's the start of a new semester, which means students are looking for more ways to be involved on campus. It also means many of the more than 400 student organizations on campus will be out in full force recruiting new members. So, here's our pitch:
Come work for The Daily. All of our sections - news, sports, life & arts, opinion, photography, copy editing, design, multimedia, and online - are looking for new interns.
We need people interested in writing, photography, design, illustration and editing. We need people from all majors and all backgrounds to help make a diverse staff with many different points of view.

Oklahoma Newspaper Scholarship Apps Available
|
Student application forms for ONF's 2012 paid summer internship and scholarship programs are now available. At least 18 Oklahoma newspapers will receive funding to host a paid intern next summer, and the program is made possible by a grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation. ONF's scholarship program will award three $1,500 scholarships to students pursuing newspaper careers.
An additional $1,000 scholarship, made possible by a donation from the Breeden family, will be awarded only to a senior at the University of Oklahoma.
The deadline is Feb. 15, 2012.
