Gaylord
College launches campaign, hosts book signing to honor Bob Barry
Following the recent announcement that Bob Barry, Sr., 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, will
retire as the radio voice of OU Sooner football and basketball at the end of
the 2010-2011 seasons, the Gaylord College has announced a special fundraising initiative in Barry's honor.
The campaign will create a student enrichment fund to
benefit Gaylord College programs for students interested in sports journalism
and recognize his half-century of play-by-play broadcasting with a special
place in Gaylord Hall. The Bob Barry Endowment for Student Sports Programs will
allow Gaylord students to participate in educational enrichment opportunities,
including travel to report on events away from campus like the NFL and NBA
drafts, out-of-town contests, or bowl and championship games.
The campaign will officially kick off with a special
book signing of Barry's recently published biography, "Voice of Bedlam: The
Life of Bob Barry" on Oct. 16 as part of the Gaylord College homecoming
festivities. The signing will be held in Gaylord Hall approximately 2 ½ hours
prior to kickoff, immediately following the homecoming parade. The book was
written by another OU journalism alum, Bob Burke ('70) and Michael Dean. Read more Barry's career and about this effort on our website. |
