Phase II of Gaylord Hall Dedicated
The official dedication for phase II of Gaylord Hall was held on Oct. 13, 2009. President and Mrs. Boren, Vice Provost Nancy Mergler, Bill and Bob Ross, Christy Everest and members of the Gaylord family were in attendance.
President Boren, Gaylord College Dean Joe Foote and public relations student, Savannah Mobley spoke at the ceremony to more than 200 people in the new Inasmuch Foundation Commons.

Lindsey+Asp Advertising and Public Relations launched at OU
The official launch party for the student-run Lindsey+Asp Advertising and Public Relations agency at OU was held Oct. 27 and Oct. 28. The two-day celebration welcomed current and prospective clients as well as local advertising and public relations professionals. The students prepared this video to let visitors know what they are all about. Watch the video.

New JayMac Officers
In
addition to honoring four distinguished alumni and bestowing the JayMac
Teaching Award at the Oct. 8 banquet new officers were also installed.
The new officers for 2009-2010 are: President, Jolly Brown Pugh, KGOU; Vice President, Nancy Coggins, APR, freelance strategic communication; and, Secretary/Treasurer, James Tyree, The Oklahoman.
David Joplin and Ja'Rena Lunsford were also added to the Board.

2009 JayMac Distinguished Alumni and Young Professional Honored at Banquet
The JayMac Alumni Association honored the recipients of the
Distinguished Alumni award for 2009: Suzanne Arnote Holloway, retired Tulsa World food editor and restaurant critic; Bob Bernstein, advertising executive and CEO of
Bernstein-Rein Advertising; and, James R. Jones, former U.S. Ambassador
to Mexico. In addition, Holly Bailey, Newsweek White House
Correspondent was recognized as the 2009 Young
Professional.

Thomas L. Friedman to be Honored with Gaylord Prize, Dec. 7
The Gaylord College will honor Thomas L. Friedman, author and New York Times foriegn affairs columnist, for a lifetime of excellence
in journalism at a luncheon December 7, 2009 to be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Oklahoma City. If you would like to attend the banquet, please RSVP by Monday, Dec. 1 to kadams@ou.edu. Tickets are $50 for JayMac members and $125 for non-members.

Gaylord College Hosts 18 Latin American Journalists for a Week
The Institute for Research and Training led by Dr. Charles Self hosted 18 journalists from 14 Latin American countries Oct. 1 through 7. The program is part of the Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists run by the U.S. State Department. OU is one of a dozen universities that will host groups this fall.
Journalists are nominated for the program by the U.S. embassies in their home countries with the goal of increasing understanding of journalism and culture in the U.S. It is hoped that this increased understanding will enable the journalists to provide more balanced reporting in the future.

Sandra Longcrier Named to the PRSA College of Fellows
