2009 JayMac Distinguished Alumni and Young Professional Named
The JayMac Alumni Association has announced the recipients of the
Distinguished Alumni award for 2009: Suzanne Arnote Holloway, retired Tulsa World food editor and restaurant critic; Bob Bernstein, advertising executive and CEO of
Bernstein-Rein Advertising; and, James R. Jones, former U.S. Ambassador
to Mexico. In addition, Holly Bailey, Newsweek White House
Correspondent will be honored as the 2009 Young

| Four Professionals Join Full-time Faculty Two Emmy-winners, one a network foreign correspondent and the other
a satellite television producer, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist,
and a military public relations practitioner skilled in crisis
communication have joined the ranks of full-time faculty members at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass
Communication. "We have an exceptional group of highly
talented professionals joining the Gaylord College faculty this year,"
said Gaylord College Dean Joe Foote. "Our students will have an

Gaylord College Advertising and Public Relations Students Start New Agency
Eighteen advertising and public relations students sacrificed their summer vacations to participate in the career-boosting opportunity of laying the groundwork for the new student-run advertising and public relations agency at Gaylord College.
The students have been working hard to establish a name and design collateral materials for the agency as well as preparing a handbook and various forms to aid in agency operations. The agency is already meeting with several clients this summer and will be fully operational by the fall semester.

Gaylord in Washington Students Visit the White House and National Press Club
 Five undergraduate students are participated in the inaugural Gaylord College Summer in Washington program. The students were placed in internships in the captial and attend seminars at the Washington Center for Politics and Journalism twice a week.  July was an exciting month for the group with visits to both the National Press Club (arranged by 1968 PR alumnus Louis Priebe-above) and to the White House (at right). The group met with OU alumna and Newsweek correspondent Holly Bailey and Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. |
TV4OU Gets New Name and New Home at Cox Channel 124
On Aug. 27 the University of Oklahoma acquired its own dedicated, local educational access channel, OUTV. OU's student-run television channel, previously known as TV4OU and headquartered at the Gaylord College of Journalism & Mass Communication, has moved from Norman's Cox Channel 4 to Cox Channel 124. South Asian Journalists Visit OU

Eleven women journalists participated in a Visual Storytelling
Workshop at the Gaylord College July 11-21. The participants were
experienced broadcast journalists from Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. OU
students enrolled in the Electronic News Gathering class were teamed
with the visiting journalists to prepare broadcast news
packages for the journalists to take back to their home countries
and air on their respective news stations.

2009 OIDJ High School Workshop Produces Red Dirt Journal in Print, Online
The Oklahoma Institute for Diversity in Journalism is an annual
workshop for promising high school students, scheduled for two weeks each
summer.
The program is funded by the Ethics and Excellence in
Journalism Foundation, the Oklahoman, the Gaylord College and the Dow
Jones Newspaper Fund.
Its goal is to expose youth to careers in the world of daily journalism.
OIDJ's mission is to provide opportunities for students who
would otherwise lack access to journalism training or who face other
barriers to pursuing careers in journalism.
