walk-through of the new wing at the end of the spring 2009 semester.

Two Students Included In Top 100 Student Journalists In U.S. By UWIRE
Dane Beavers and Hailey Branson have been included in the 2009 class of
the top 100 student journalists nationwide by UWire. The UWIRE 100 are
currently the best and brightest student journalists in the nation.
The honorees represent 69 schools ranging from small colleges to
large research universities such as the University of Oklahoma.
Students were nominated by their peers, professors, professionals and
faculty advisers. More than 825 nominations were received from more

Regents Recognize Three With Connections to the Gaylord College
From left: Bob Burke, Bob Ross, and Renzi Stone, shown here with Dean Foote at reception in Gaylord Hall, were recognized with the Regent's Alumni
Award for 2009 for their service to the University.
Burke is a 1970 journalism grad, noted attorney, author and historian who has made substantial contributions to Bizzell Memorial Library including collections of rare bibles and the Autorgraphs of American Leaders.
Ross is a 1999 OU College of Law graduate. Under his leadership as president of the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation and the Inasmuch Foundation the two organizations have provided extraordinary support to the University including Phase I and II of Gaylord Hall.
Stone is a 2000 history graduate and was a member of the OU men's basketball team. He is currently the CEO of Saxum PR in Oklahoma City and serves as an adviser for the Gaylord College through his active participation on the Board of Visitors.

Broadcast Students Branch Out to Produce Sports and Morning Shows
Careers in broadcasting involve more than just producing the news. The
newly revamped broadcasting and electronic media major at the Gaylord
College offers students multiple opportunities to get hands-on
experience producing multiple show formats including The Set (music), OUr Sports Pad (sports) and OU Nightly (news). The newest addition to the lineup is Wake Up! Oklahoma (crew shown above), a 30-minute
morning show developed in fall 2008 by broadcasting and electronic

Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins Delivers 2009 Spring Convocation Address
The Gaylord College graduated more than 275 students at the ceremony held Saturday, May 16 at McCasland Field House. That number included nearly a dozen graduate students.
The Convocation speech was delivered by Lt. Gov. Jari Askins (at right). Askins is a 1975 journalism graduate of the then H.H. Herbert School of Journalism.
The college also recognized 21 members of the national honor society, Phi Beta Kappa and 19 members of the journalism honor society, Kappa Tau Alpha. The College also had more than 10 students graduate with honors and three students graduated with perfect 4.0 grade point averages throughout their college careers. |
