Dream Course Brings Documentary Filmmakers to Campus President David L. Boren awarded Dream Course status to the Introduction to Documentary course, taught by Gaylord College
professors Ralph Beliveau and Kathryn Jenson White. The designation
provides resources to enrich the course by bringing award-winning
masters of the craft to campus.
With this funding, the professors are able to invite such award-winning filmmakers as Carla Garapedian, director of "Screamers" and "Lifting the Veil," and Katy Chevigny, producer/director of "Election Day" and "Deadline," who will screen feature-length documentaries that focus on both global and national political issues. Native Oklahoman filmmakers Brad Beesley, director of "The Fearless Freaks" and "Okie Noodling II," and Melissa Scaramucci and Cacky Poarch, organizers of the Oklahoma City DeadCenter Film Festival and directors of "Art 365," focus their work on cultural issues. Leading documentary scholar Michael Renov rounds out the slate of experts. Renov, associate dean of academic affairs at the University of Southern California, has authored several definitive books on documentary films.
All screenings and filmmaker discussions are free and open to the public in Meacham Auditorium in the Oklahoma Memorial Union. Screening schedule and video trailers.
