Mark Nehrenz attends Mandela's 90th birthday celebration in South Africa  Mark Nehrenz, a Norman native and a junior at the University of
Oklahoma majoring in journalism with an African Studies minor is one of
the first two recipients of the Perkins Africa Scholarship. Nehrenz
will spend the summer and fall semesters studying in South Africa.

Two Journalism Alumni Receive Emmys The
awards were presented during the National Academy of Television Arts
and Sciences Heartland Regional Emmy Awards and Silver Circle

Princeton Review Lists OU as Top School for Undergraduate Students
The University of Oklahoma is one of the nation's best institutions for
undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review, which notes
that only about 15 percent of America's 2,500 four-year colleges and
two Canadian colleges were selected for the designation. In addition, The Princeton Review listed journalism as one of the top majors for undergraduates at OU. Check out the Princeton Review Web site.

UNITY 2008 Three Gaylord professors and five students attended the UNITY '08
Conference, held in Chicago, IL, from July 23-27. More than 6,600 journalists and communicators convened to discuss and
exchange ideas on a variety of topics, including new media, politics,
and the impact of diversity on the media. Read more about the Gaylord College group's experience.
This year also marked the first year the Native American Journalists
Association attended the conference after relocating their headquarters

Cherokee Ballard, One of Few Native American Broadcast Journalists
Cherokee Ballard is a staple of Oklahoma City television news, whether as a reporter for KOCO Channel 5 or most recently as co-anchor of the KFOR Channel 4 nine o'clock news broadcast on channel 43. Charles Self, AEJMC President 2007-2008 Charles Self, founding dean of the Gaylord College and director of the Institute of Research and Training, is winding down his year as president of the Association of Education for Journalism and Mass Communication for 2007-2008. The organization will host nearly 2,000 attendees at the annual convention next week in Chicago. Read more about the organization and convention.
