Bringing the War Into the Classroom Embedded journalist Mike Boettcher and Dean Joe Foote will be teaching a groundbreaking class in fall 2008. Boettcher and his son Carlos will be blogging and communicating live with students via satellite connection to Iraq while teaching a course about the media and the war.

OU Wins 30 Percent of OBEA Awards Twenty-two Gaylord College students will receive a total of 25 awards
in the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) awards on March
28th, accounting for 30 percent of all the awards given in the 2007
program. The students will receive awards in 14 categories.Read more about the awards.

Five Most Peaceful Nations Ursula Devine, professional writing grad student, and Joseph Campo,
drama senior, have been awarded a $10,000 grant for a Davis Project for
Peace. The program is conducted by the Davis United World College
Scholars Program and is in its second year. One hundred projects have

PR Week Young Professional Award
When Jake Basden graduated from the Gaylord College in Spring 2006 faculty and staff knew
he would be someone to keep their eye on, and that is just what PR Week magazine has done.
Jake was runner-up for Student of the Year in 2006 and now the magazine has awarded Jake the Young Professional Award. Jake is a media specialist at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide.

OU Daily, Sooner Yearbook Receive Awards Seven members of the The Daily staff were recognized by the
Columbia Scholastic Press Association with Gold Circle awards for
editorial writing, sports features, news features, sports column,
first-person experience and text/pullout/at-a-glance box design. The OU
student yearbooks, Sooner and Crimson Traditions, also received the Gold Crown Award.
The Daily was also recognized by the Oklahoma Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists with 22 awards. The Daily received second place for the best overall newspaper and second place for best page one layout and design. Both times The Daily finished behind the Norman Transcript. |
