The Nutcracker AmandaWow!  We are days from our Christmas celebration, and my "To Do" list is overflowing.  I'm streamlining where I can and focusing free moments on quality time with family and friends. There's nothing better than downtime to enjoy favorite traditions.

First Night 2011Don't miss the 25th Anniversary of Springfield's "First Night" Festivities on December 31st.  Children's activities run from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Springfield High School.  Fireworks kick off the evening's events at 7:00 p.m. We've got all the details here.

Today! 12:15 - 12:45. Bring your lunch and enjoy festive music at the Brown Bag Christmas Concert at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, 321 South 7th Street. Free admission. 

 

 

 

2010 Old Capitol Holiday WalksLast Chance Tonight!  December 21st from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.   Old Capitol Holiday Walks.  Downtown Springfield. Extended shopping and dining hours; Santa House, horse drawn trolley, lighted holiday tree, toy train display, free entertainment. Free and open to the public.      

   

 

Happy New Year!December 31st beginning at 9:00 a.m. "Noon Year's Eve" at Children's Discovery Museum.  CDM will feature playful "100" themed activities, family favorite games and crafts for "play-ers" of all ages! Noisemakers, party crowns and face painting will make this day truly memorable! And of course there will be a colorful confetti countdown at Noon.  Plus, enjoy their Greeting Card Design Studio on the same day!   

 

First Night 2011  

December 31st from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. 25th Annual Celebration of "First Night" Springfield.  Children's activities will be ongoing at Springfield High School and fireworks will kick off the evening festivities at 7:00 p.m. Details here.    

 

 

 

SJCH-1Thursday, January 5th: Baby Basics Class: All About Baby at St. John's Children's Hospital.  Learn what a new baby is really like and how to care for one. Information provided on basic layette and nursery needs, feeding choices, safety issues, poison prevention and car seat regulations and installation. Details here.

 

 

Harlem Globetrotters

Friday, January 6th at 7:00 p.m. The legendary Harlem Globetrotters will celebrate their 86th consecutive season in 2012, continuing a world famous tradition of ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that continues to thrill fans of all ages. CDMlogoSaturday, January 21st and February 18th at 10:00 a.m. Early Explorers at the Children's Discovery Museum.  Ages 4-5 years old. Early Explorers is a drop-off program that features a story and related hands-on activities. Topics include "Winter Science" in January and "Five Senses" in February.
