2010 Old Capitol Holiday WalksTonight!  December 7 and 8th, 14th and 21st from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.   Old Capitol Holiday Walks.  Downtown Springfield. Extended shopping and dining hours; Santa House, horse drawn trolley, lighted holiday tree, toy train display, free entertainment. Free and open to the public.      

   

 

CDMlogoFriday, December 9th at 5:30 p.m.  Enjoy a night out in Bloomington-Normal while your kids attend a Zoot Dance Party at the Children's Discovery Museum. Your child will enjoy the wonderful sounds of these popular musicals plus learn basic dance movements and choreography that teach rhythm, timing and beat. Theatrical face paint will be included. Return for the musical revue at 7:45 p.m.

 

 

Saturday, December 10th from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. "Super Saturdays" at the Illinois State Museum.  Families can make winter-themed art at the  "Let it Snow! Winter Crafts" Super Saturday. Children can use a spray bottle to create winter collages with liquid watercolors, make a special magnet to keep or give as a gift, help create a collaborative winter scene mural and more.  

   

 

Saturday, December 10th at 12:00 noon.  Lunch with the Sugar Plum Fairies ahead of The Nutcracker at Sangamon Auditorium.  Don't miss this magical opportunity for your children to meet the characters from this classic production up close.   

  

Can't do lunch?  You can still enjoy the Springfield Ballet Company's Nutcracker Ballet. Performances are Saturday, December 10th at 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 11th at 2:00 p.m.  Details here.

Saturday, December 10th at 10:00 a.m. Early Explorers at the Children's Discovery Museum.  Ages 4-5 years old.  Be like the big kids and get ready to explore and discover! Early Explorers is a drop-off program that features a story and related hands-on activities. While you're there, enjoy the "I Spy a North Pole Village" exhibit. 

 

 

Holiday Farmers MarketSaturday, December 17th from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Holiday Farmers Market.  Artisans Building at the State Fairgrounds. Enjoy a fresh and healthy holiday season. Locally grown and produced meats, vegetables, apples, eggs, honey, Illinois wine, and more! Children's activities and lunch for purchase by Real Cuisine Catering.  

       

Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony 

 

Saturday, December 17th at 1:30: Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony Winter Concert in the UIS Sangamon Auditorium. Nearly 300 beginners through accomplished high school musicians in their respective orchestras will play lively classics and sparkling music of the season for an anticipated audience of more than 1,000 guests, family and friends.
