"Programming for Abraham Lincoln's 200th Birthday has been chosen to attract visitors of all ages, and we are excited to offer many family friendly events throughout the week in Springfield," says Jennifer Tirey, deputy director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. "One family event I hope everyone can participate in is the simultaneous reading of the Gettysburg Address on February 12th at 9:30 a.m. Join us live online at www.presidentlincoln.org as we recite what is arguably Lincoln's most famous speech with over 300,000 school children in classrooms across Illinois. Be a part of history as we attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records with the largest number of participants in a simultaneous reading in our history." Don't Miss the Prairie Heart Health Celebration.
On Saturday, February 7th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Prairie Heart Institute at St. John's Hospital will host a FREE Health Fair. All participants can tour the Center for Living, check their cholesterol and receive heart healthy information. Participants also can register to exercise with Richard Simmons on February 21. Maple Syrup Time at Lincoln Memorial GardenFebruary 14 - March 8 FREEFor four weekends in late February and early March, you're invited to walk into the Garden's sugar bush as staff and volunteers tap the maple trees. Help collect the sap as it flows from the trees and then cook it down into pure maple syrup. Our weekend demonstrations begin on Saturday, Feb. 14th and run through Sunday, March 8th. Demonstrations begin at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 on both Saturday and Sunday.
