Managing Your Children's Halloween Candy Stash
holloween
Halloween is a treat, but it can also be frightful for your children's teeth! With a little advance planning, you can hand out treats at your front door that don't overload those princesses and super heroes with all that sugar.  For tips on how to negotiate the candy stash with your children, read registered dietician Sara Lopinski's article from the Prairie Heart Center for Living. Learn more here.
Ask the Professional
Identifying and Dealing With a Strong Willed Child
A strong willed child is a child who has a challenging temperament.  There are 9 types of temperament characteristics and counselor Rini Christofilakos-Soler, LCPC, describes each as well as some of the more ineffective parenting strategies.  Looking for parenting encouragement and helpful coping ideas?  She's got those too.  Read story here.
Checking In With Your Child About Their Day

HeartoutlineAsking about a child's day is not just a way to stay connected. It also gives parents valuable information about things that may affect how he is doing in school. Studies show that children with parents who are involved and who check in with their kids about the everyday stuff help their children progress in concrete ways.  Read more from Parent Help Line's article here.

Ask the Attorney

Judge Scales  This is the second in our two-part series on divorce. What is child support for? When will a judge order extra payments for day care, after school care, medical insurance, private school tuition or medical costs?  Family attorney Kevin Linder provides details in this article.  Read more here.

Breast Cancer Awareness & Beautiful Bras
There's one week left to visit and vote for the more than 45 beautiful bras on display at The Wardrobe.  For $1 per vote you may cast your vote for your favorite and all funds collected will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Decatur for the Cure and The American Cancer Society.   You will be amazed at the creativity; my favorite is the pink cadillac with unusual looking headlights!  Many of us have known someone who has had a battle with cancer, some have won and others have lost - this fundraiser is a fun way to get involved and help us raise some money for a great cause. Stop by The Wardrobe at 830 S. Grand Avenue (just off MacArthur) and show your support!  And Men, don't forget that "Real Men Wear Pink" Fridays in October.  We agree that you all look terrific in pink, so feel free to keep up this awareness and sharp-looking attire year-round!
