Greetings!

Can you believe the holiday season is here and 2010 is around the corner?!

On behalf of the Gray Institute we would like to thank you for a great 2009!!  Without you and your support we wouldn't be where we are, THANK YOU!

We are proud to announce that our 2010 GIFT mentorship program is almost full.  Please view "GIFT Testimonial Video >HERE<  If you are planning on attending, please contact Doug Gray at 866.230.8300 this week to ensure your space.

This month our theme is jumping, seeing as jumping has implications to everything we do...squatting, walking, running, lunging all have components of jumping involved. It is often viewed that jumping only applies to sports but everyone, to some degree, can benefit from this total body movement; if we apply within their threshold.  To explore more about this fundamental movement and much more, this month's newsletter provides an article by Doug Gray, FAFS titled "Jump-Jop-Hop, Load Better to Explode Better".  This is followed by a clip from the "Jump-Jop-Hop" DVD, now available for purchase at www.grayinstitute.com

Due to the holiday season, there will be just one part to the newsletter this month.  Please have a safe, enjoyable holiday!

See you in 2010!

Load Better to Explode Better

 Doug Gray FAFS

Jumping is an action that has implications to everything we do. Squatting, walking, running, lunging, etc. has components of jumping involved. Therefore, jumping better will pave the way to functioning better. A common element of plyometrics and calisthenics is jumping. Jump training is a point of focus in sport, yet has extreme implications to life in general. The topic of jumping initiates many questions to consider, such as the following:

· Is your jump training directly carrying over to that
  which you are training for?
· Is your jump training better preparing you to execute
activities more efficiently, whether in sport or active
  daily living?
· Is your jump training incorporating all three planes of
motion (as the body is intended to function)?
· Is your jump training properly sequenced to be safe
  and guarantees progress/improvement?

Chain Reaction Function

You're in for a treat this month!  Doug Gray, FAFS takes us through portions of the Jump-Jop-Hop Explosion workout.  We will show just a portion of this 60 minute workout DVD however you will gain an appreciation for the various ways to challenge your patient / clients while vertically collapsing.  Doug uses various hand positions as "tweaks" to challenge the body's reaction.  As you're watching the movements, stand up and apply on yourself to feel the different reactions a simple hand position can make on a squat movement.  For much more, be sure to see the rest of the DVD titled Jump-Jop-Hop in our 3D Matrix Performance Series.  Enjoy!

Research Roundtable

G2_n_Dave

Dr. Tiberio and Gary Gray, PT invite you to a great discussion on Enhancing Jumping which correlates to Doug's article and the technique section.  Dave discusses how in efficient jumping the hips were shown to go through less range of motion although moved faster than the ankle and knees...Gary then comments and adds functional knowledge to what the research is showing in this particular study.   They both end the discussion with areas we should focus on when conditioning patients / clients to react better not only in jumping but in all activity.

To learn more about this discussion please visit our website at www.grayinstitute.com to purchase the DVD from the Functional Video Digest Series titled:

Jumping:  Unleashing the Load

We look forward to sharing again in 2010!
