Greetings!
Hello friends, we hope you are enjoying these ever changing months of winter.
First, we want to thank you for all your well written questions last month. Your questions are appreciated and form the function of this newsletter; please keep them coming!
We have exciting news for YOU!! The Gary Institute has been aggressively expanding to assist in better serving you, your clients and your businesses. Through our information and new business alliances you will be exposed to various tools to enhance your services in the convenience of your home, gym or office.
Our recently announced content partnership with Tx Xchange is one such alliance. Tx Xchange is the rehabilitation market's first interactive, web-based software solution used by therapists and their patients. The solution allows you to expand your patient relationships beyond the walls of your clinic by enabling the rehabilitative process online. This continuity of care dramatically improves patient self-management and satisfaction.
In addition, we are aligning with PTonTheNet and Training Peaks (Peaksware) to continue to provide you with the best service in the industry...as you know the whole is bigger than the sum of its parts. With you and our alliances, we will make a difference-thank YOU! More information will come your way during the next few months.
As for our February theme, we will emphasize on the knee joint and would like to thank Dave Gottfeld, FAFS, MAT for writing this month's article we know you will find it enjoyable. Check out the techniques this month and get back to us with question so we can form Part Two.
Thank you - we look forward to another exciting month!

THE RHYTHM of the KNEE JOINT Dave Gottfeld, B.S., FAFS, MAT.
I have always been an inquisitive person that likes to ask questions. As a boy it was endearing, as an adult it has caused many physicians to scratch their head. Allow me to explain. My father recently had a knee replacement. My question to the doctor was why that particular knee wore-out before the other one. Both knees are 74 years old and if we just change the part, isn't the mechanism or the imbalance still there?

This month another great example of Gary Gray explaining the why to the application. In this month's clip, Gary talks about WHY the knee may be experiencing negative stress and therefore displays symptoms. Understanding the "why" allows us to address the cause and the symptom at the same time, or at least together as one strategy.
Watch as Gary first discusses, then addresses through mobilizations.

Research Roundtable
February research roundtable is here! Hopefully you will enjoy Dr. Dave Tiberio and Gray Gray PT discussing the patella femoral joint. Gary reviews the important principle of three-dimensionality, while applying it to the Chain Reaction. Note the comments on how the foot / ankle and hip influence the patella femoral reaction. When a person's knee hurts, is it the symptom or the cause? We hope you enjoy their talk.

Questions / Answers |
|
1. Where would you start your assessment if someone complains of anterior knee pain just below the knee cap during walking and stair stepping?
2. In David Gottfeld's article "The Rhythm of the Knee Joint" he mentioned a common problem I often see. This is the lack of terminal knee extension during gait. What are some key principles to understand when developing strategies and ultimately effective techniques to restore normal knee extension?
