11 year old Kristin Chivers wins the bronze medal in the Pre Juvenile level at the recent Upper Great Lakes Regional Championships which took place in Minneapolis / St Paul this weekend.

It was an amazing end to a terrific season for Kristin, she has had lots of success this year winning medals in all the major events that she has competed in, however a medal at Regionals was the ultimate goal for the season.

She was competing against over 70 skaters who had made it through to the Championships and had to skate early Saturday morning to make it through to the finals. Her performance there earned her 3rd in her heat and with the top four making the finals she knew she was safe.

Kristin was 11th to skate and started off the final group, she skated an almost flawless program including two double / double combinations which at her level is not seen very often. Her performance was good enough to win her the bronze medal skating against many girls who are a couple of years older than her.

Kristin is coached by former Olympic competitor Chris Howarth at the Glacier Ice Arena. Chris says, "This is by far and away the highlight of Kristin's career so far. It really is an amazing achievement to win a medal at these Championships, this achievement is the result of many hours of practice on and off the ice."

Kristin started skating at the age of 18 months and in addition to her figure skating training, she also plays ice hockey for the Kenosha Komets Her interest in skating was inspired by her Grandfather Paul Hruby, who is the Hockey Program Coordinator for the Paul Hruby Ridgeland Commons Ice Arena in Oak Park.

She is a 6th grade student at Emmons Elementary School in Antioch and is involved in softball, cheerleading, playing the clarinet in the band and more.

Other skaters who performed well were: Brian Mueller, Lauren Skaathun, Michelle Mueller, Alyssa Uzumcu, Chloe Bacarni, Sami Mizock & Natalie Kenley.

Well done to all of you, you did the Glacier proud!
