Greetings!
It was Christmas Eve in a supermarket and a woman was anxiously picking over the last few remaining turkeys in the hope of finding a large one.
In desperation she called over a shop assistant and said, "Excuse me. Do these turkeys get any bigger?"
"No" he replied, "They're all dead."
The turkey's not getting any bigger-and the jokes aren't getting any better!
But as we wait for Christmas, we live in the hope that Christ will make our lives better. We live in the hope of his coming into each of our lives personally as He came into all of our lives two thousand years ago at the first Christmas and as He will come back to earth one day at his Second Coming.
This time, after Thanksgiving and before Christmas, when the whole Church together celebrates Christ's First Coming and looks forward to his Second Coming is called Advent-from the Latin word "to come."
Our challenge is to ensure that when Christ comes into our own lives, we are ready to greet him.
So perhaps this is an especially good time for us to greet our new Archbishop. As you know our previous Archbishop, Edwin O'Brien, has been transferred to the Archdiocese of Baltimore. So, we will soon receive a new Archbishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, Timothy Broglio, to act as our spiritual C.O.
I hope you've all had a good Thanksgiving and are looking forward to Christ coming into your life more and more deeply!
In Christ,
Pavel
