 Art Exhibit and Street Festival

First Friday Opening Reception

 Friday, October 7, from 6-10pm

 

This wonderful exhibit celebrates the colorful and loving holiday of Mexico. The exhibit hosts altars created by local artists and families as well as a display of Day of the Dead inspired works of art. The evening's festivities include live music, food and fun! Come dressed as a your own Day of the Dead inspired character, and experience the celebration, memories, love and creativity!

Day of the Dead Street Festival

 

Saturday, October 8, from 1-9pm

 

Experience the largest and longest running Day of the Dead Festival in Kansas City! Watch live entertainment hosted by MC's Manny Martinez & Viviana Medellin from Taste of Tejano KKFI, enjoy delicious food from Ricos Tacos Lupe, and browse wonderful handmade art and gifts from Evil Pawn Jewelry, BB Loco Designs, many other local artisans. Kids will enjoy the carnival area with fun games, face painting and great art activities. The exhibit of altars and artwork will also be open all day.

Another night of fun, this time the same week as the Mexican holiday! To celebrate we will listen to live music and parade through the West side Neighborhood in festive costumes. Everyone is invited to join in the fun!

Howl at the moon...become your other self  

Don't miss this exceptional mask making workshop and opportunity to interact with an amazing artist and educator, Dr. Richard Bay. He will share his wonderful portfolio of masks and world experiences. We will provide all the materials, and fun!

 Dead Printz 

Come make your print for Day of the Dead using simple drawing and printing methods! We'll combine collage materials to give your imagery life for this Day of the Dead project.

Come create your own small, personalized altar using traditional colors and symbolism of Day of the Dead. Please bring photos and small personal objects and we will provide all the fun
