Come and celebrate the 40th birthday of the Afterschool Arts Program with our annual Mattie Rhodes Art Center Children's Exhibit. This exhibit highlights the students and artwork of our after-school art programs. This year's First Friday reception will be bigger and better, including "Birthday" themed entertainment and refreshments. Celebrate! is the first of many celebrations scheduled for this special year. |

 Sundae Bowl Fundraiser
Mattie Rhodes Art Center is celebrating 40 years of after-schools arts programming
in Kansas City! What betterway to CELEBRATE...than with ICE CREAM SUNDAES??
We invite you to stop by during our opening reception to pick out your favorite
handmade ceramic bowl and fill it with delicious icre cream and all sorts of toppings.
All it taxes is a donation of $10. What better way to support the Art Center! |

Folk Art & Festivities of Japan
In Japan, spring is the time for children's celebrations. March is Hina Matsuri, Girl's Day, and May is Tangu No Sekku, Boy's Day. In this class we will explore some of the tranditions from these holidays and we will create items based on pieces from the Hand-in-Hand Folk Art Collection, Kokeshi Dolls and Carp Kites. A great workshop to share with your child or if you are into Japanese Folk Art!

This workshop will explore drawing and painting
techniques using a variety of materials and subjects.
Creative Clay
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Students will learn basic sculpture, hand
building, and galzing techniques.
Make It and Take It
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

This workshop is perfect for young artists who love to get their hands dirty!
Students will work in a variety of mediums such as sewing, painting, sculpture,
found objects, and collage.
