RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT - DANI
Dani is an adorable and fluffy little Oriental-mix who arrived at STAF in the summer of 2009 when she was just 8 weeks old. She and her seven brothers and sisters were found under an old farmhouse porch that was beginning to fall apart. They were skinny, dirty, and covered in fleas - some of the filthiest cats to ever be brought in to the shelter!
Dani was very attached to her sister Devon, who was small like her. Unfortunately for Dani, Devon was adopted with one of their brothers, which made her life at the shelter suddenly more difficult. Without Devon's companionship, Dani was suddenly afraid of other cats and the friendly STAF volunteers. She was so upset; she would hide under furniture in her room, and even stopped eating.
STAF volunteers realized she was in need of some people-love therapy, and moved her into the vet room where she is now around people almost 18 hours a day, which tends to really help the most frightened or feral cats who come to the shelter. She slowly began to trust people more, and now is used to being held and petted - she even purrs loudly when you pick her up!
Now Dani walks the vet room and halls at STAF proudly and happily. She no longer hides and doesn't eat, but loves attention, and will try to eat other cats' food! She is back on her feet, and ready for a home! She may be happiest as an only cat, or with an older, gentler cat as her feline companion.
Dani is soft as a bunny - and who can say no to those big blue eyes? So stop by to meet and pet this sweet girl during our adoptions on Thursdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm or Saturdays from 1:00pm-4:00pm! |
RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT - BRUCE
If you are a fan of tough-guy exteriors with marshmallow fillings, Bruce is your kind of dog. His former owner got Bruce as a pup, but a year later surrendered him to STAF when he felt that his work schedule no longer allowed time for a dog.
From his former home we know that Bruce is housebroken (he'll even ring a bell to let you know he needs to go outside!) and crate trained. He has a lot of energy when it comes to play time, but also enjoys chilling inside. He's a lover of ropes, tennis balls, frisbees, squeaky toys, car rides and (especially) people. He knows sit, stay, lay down, give paw and high five. We're currently working on his sneeze-on-command. (Watch for it on petfinder.com!) Yes, he is a bit of a ham.
Bruce is currently enrolled in a weekly training class to give this Mr. Smarty Pants some much-needed time away from the shelter, and to help him work on his leash manners around other dogs. (His excitement around new dogs can be over-the-top.) He is making great strides, but would absolutely excel in a real home where he could bond with a human of his very own. Bruce is looking for a confident, dog-savvy owner to reinforce his training on an everyday basis, play hard and snuggle long. (With ample attention to Bruce's "sweet spot"--his front armpit ...er, LEGpit area.)
If you have room in your home and heart for a guy like Bruce, please visit during adoption hours-Thursdays 6:00pm-8:00pm and Saturdays 1:00pm-4:00pm. Otherwise, please help us find Bruce's lucky home-to-be by forwarding his story to your dog-loving friends and family. |
