SAVE THE ANIMALS FOUNDATION
E-NEWS
Dear Friend of STAF,
With the September E-News comes a minor change. My name is Holly C and I am a volunteer at STAF. I have huge shoes to fill as Carol will no longer be sending the E-News. THANK YOU Carol for the time spent doing this in the past. We are thankful for all of your hard work. Here at STAF, we've been busy getting geared up for some fundraisers that we hope you enjoy. For the month of September we have three events you'll be sure you want to attend. Our volunteers are holding a yard sale on Saturday the 11th and from the donations I have seen in the lobby there will be many items there to choose from. 100% of the sales go to STAF. The wonderful people at Shane Weber Salon will be holding a fundraiser for STAF at their salon on September 18th. Finally on Wednesday the 29th Max & Erma's will be donating 20% of your sale to STAF. Make sure to print out the coupon below.
We're again selling Entertainment Books this year! We're also one of the featured organizations for the Sixth Sense Program at both Bigg's in Hyde Park and Harrison. Like wine? Check out the Dog Lover's Wine Club where your purchase helps STAF.
We know you're going to love both Kona and Thumbelina our two Resident Spotlight articles this month. As always, thank you for all that you do for STAF!

 RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT - THUMBELLINA
When Thumbellina was about four months old, she was left in a church cellar over in Milford. It appeared someone pried open a cellar door and placed her inside. The church's maintenance man and receptionist realized she was a polydactyl as they were cleaning her up. Neither of them had ever seen a cat with "thumbs." They took care of her in the church offices for a few days until a member of the church and STAF supported called us and brought her in. She's now about 6 months old and very sweet and loveable. At STAF, she made quick friends with Dora the Explorer, a one-eyed kitten who was found downtown with severe eye injury. The two young girls are STAF roommates and do a great job of taking care of one another. Thumbelina is quite the baby doll - she loves to be held, and if you cradle her like a baby, she immediately starts purring loudly. She definitely has the personality to match her interesting looks!
Stop by and say hi to her sometime soon - a kitten like her won't be at the shelter for long, she's easy to fall in love with.
Interested in meeting this sweet girl? Then stop by during STAF adoptions on Thursdays from 6:00-8:00pm, and Saturdays from 1:00-4:00pm.

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT - KONA
Kona came to us from a county shelter with too many dogs and too little funding. Someone botched the job on her tail docking, she has wrinkles galore on her head, is prematurely gray (estimated birth date is Jan 2007) and she is the biggest tom boy dog you are ever going to meet. Princess? Not our Kona. She runs and plays with the best of them and doesn't give a whiff about her appearance. Neither do we.
Kona is full of energy! She loves to run, run and run some more. Her personality is XXL, a very engaging dog and quite funny to boot. Almost like she knows she is making you laugh with her silly little antics. On home visits one of her favorite things to do is dig. But not in the yard, with the pillows on the bed. Once satisfied she buries her head under a mound of pillows and blankets, then once she hears us laugh, she pops her head out and gives a little wink and a smirk.
Kona likes to take her time before getting to know you. She does not like for people to be up in her face (99% of humans do not like this either) or to grab her from behind. She will let you know if you are invading her space. She makes friends easily at STAF as we respect this. She loves to be with us, we love to be with her. She brightens our day. She has made many of us laugh, most recently as we gave her a blue collar. Why blue? We just knew she would not be happy with a pink one. If you give her a chance she'll soon become your best friend. Another dog in the home to help her burn off her energy would be great, but if you are very active she would do well with a lot of activities also, physical and mental.
We think Kona is some kind of special! We know that you will think so too. She will be a wonderful, fun and very trusted friend. Want to come and meet Kona? We advise you to bring a McDonald's cheeseburger with you (she prefers no onion please). In Kona's get to know you book you'll get a great big gold star next to your name right away.
Adoption hours are Thursdays, 6:00-8:00pm, and Saturdays 1:00-4:00pm.
