RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT - ASTRID
Older, experienced women are the way to go, and I'm living proof. I'm Astrid, which means "divine beauty". I'm pure white from tip to tail, with the exception of my mint green eyes. I'm 10 years old and have been living at STAF most of my life. I came to the shelter 9 years ago with my 9 kittens. Talk about baggage! Believe me, it's an issue to have 9 kittens and only 8 nipples. Feeding is a challenge for all involved. But I must have done something right because all of my babies grew into very large, healthy cats. A few are still here at the shelter and the smallest is 12 pounds. I now live in room 10 at the shelter, a room filled with mostly younger, rambunctious adolescent cats. My job over the years has been to keep an eye on the teenagers and make sure they're well-mannered, so they'll show well on adoption day. I take more than a little credit for room 10 being one of the most popular adoption rooms at the shelter, with many of my charges now living in wonderful homes. But after 10 years, I think it's time for me to focus on finding a family for myself. I'm healthy, well-behaved, and well, let's just say it - absolute eye candy! I love laps, but am never obnoxious about climbing on board. A lady waits to be asked. Once in a pair of welcoming arms though, I'll let my deep, quiet purr say it all. I hope you'll be able to stop in to the shelter to meet me soon, and maybe even consider me for your family. I'd be forever grateful! I've you'd like to meet Astrid, stop by STAF during our adoption hours on Thursdays from 6:00-8:00pm or Saturdays from 1:00-4:00pm.

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT - PEANUT
Peanut is the kind of cutie who can stop traffic ... and, in fact, did! One day last fall, a woman came across a little dog lying in the middle of the road. Being a compassionate soul, she stopped to move the poor thing off the road ... but was surprised when his head popped up as he approached. Peanut had been taking a nap right in the middle of the street! Lucky for him the woman had the compassion to stop. Even luckier, she happened to be involved in dog-rescue. (Sometimes you've gotta love fate.) It took a few days of asking around the neighborhood, but she finally found out that Peanut's family had lost their home, and Peanut-only a year old at the time-was left on his own, living at the foreclosed house with no electricity, three-foot tall grass, and a nasty infestation of fleas. Peanut is great with other dogs, loves kids (and they love him!), and adores every single human he's ever met. He's also got the ability to make all but the most stone-hearted souls smile with a mere cock of that charming little head. (Move over, Benji!) One small glitch, tho: he is capable of scaling a fence like Spiderman. His lucky home-to-be will need to include a privacy or invisible fence ... or a running/walking companion who shares his need to expend all the energy that a love of life generates. At the end of the day, you'll be repaid in full (and then some) with a lapful of beagle-lovin' and lots of little kissies. Peanut knows how to sit before being leashed, but sometimes-OK, usually-can't resist jumping up to give a quick kiss. He has lots of energy and loves to race around the yard and play fetch with bouncy Cuz balls. (But doesn't often like to give them back.) He is a tease and likes to pretend to be engrossed in his play, but he sneaks peeks to see where we are so that he can dart away at the last second and lure us into chasing him. It's just not right that such a sweet, charismatic little dude has spent a third of his life in a shelter. If Peanut sounds like a match for you, please visit during adoption hours-Thursdays 6:00-8:00pm and Saturdays 1:00-4:00pm. If not, please forward his story to your dog-loving friends. Hopefully by our next newsletter, he'll be loving life in a home of his very own. |
