Greetings!

As 2009 comes to a close, we're reminded how important every member of the STAF family is.  We cannot thank each of you enough for all the involvement and support you have given us during this past year.

We hope you've enjoyed our 'Resident Spotlight' articles.   Over the past year you've met some incredible dogs and cats.  There was Beulah who had been tied up outside her entire life and Hemingway who was chained to a couch and left with no food, water or shelter as his family drove away and left him there. You can only imagine how happy we all were when both of these wonderful dogs were adopted into loving homes.

You also met Skeffington, a former street cat who came to us in horrible condition. It was discovered by our vet that he had a urinary blockage and would have died a painful death had he not been brought to STAF. And Dr. Landu who came to us with his right rear leg mangled but has since fully recovered and been adopted into a great home.

Not all shelters will accept a pregnant dog like Quinn who gave birth to eight adorable puppies shortly after she arrived at STAF or a FIV+ cat like Admiral Nimitz. In fact, most shelters won't, but luckily STAF isn't one of those shelters. For over 21 years we've continued our mission which is that every life is worth saving. Because of your friendship and support, we've been able to help thousands of dogs and cats and with your continued help, we plan on helping thousands more.

So, whether you attended a fundraising event, sponsored one of our residents, became a member of STAF, joined us for bingo or donated your pennies, on behalf of all the animals and volunteers, thank you for being part of the STAF family!

Wishing you and your families a warm and wonderful holiday season,
O'Malley, Redford and all of us at Save The Animals Foundation

Resident Spotlight - O'MalleyO'Malley

O'Malley came to us just over 3-1/2 years ago with his sister, Maeve.  They had been surrendered to a county shelter in Indiana because they seemed unsteady on their feet. The shelter felt they'd have to be put to sleep so a volunteer there contacted us to see if we could help. We were able to and both kittens arrived at STAF on St. Patrick's Day 2006.

As it turns out, Maeve actually has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which affects her motor skills so she "bobbles" when she walks but O'Malley, well best as we can tell, he's just a bit on the clumsy side!

O'Malley grew (and grew and grew)!  He's now one our largest cats, at almost 21 pounds, and close to 3 feet long from nose to tail tip.  He's the most laid back cat in the world - nothing ruffles his feathers - including dressing him, which our volunteers enjoy doing regularly.  He has a fairly large collection of hats including a cowboy hat, a King Tut headdress, and a full array of holiday head apparel, including his Santa suit.  He's a good sport to say the least!

Even though he has the run of the cat area, O'Malley likes to hang out with people.  He spends most of his time in the vet room, supervising volunteer activities, checking on who is coming and going from the shelter, and sampling whatever he likes from the food cart.  He definitely runs the show!

Interested in meeting this wonderful guy? Stop by during STAF adoptions on Thursday from 6:00-8:00pm or Saturday from 1:00-4:00pm.

Resident Spotlight - Redford Redford

Don't judge a dog by his cover.... Especially this cute Santa!

Granted, Redford may sometimes look a little intimidating at first -especially amid all the barking, stress and excitement of the shelter - but offer him a few sweet words and you'll see what the rest of us see ... one happy guy!

Since we've known him, Redford has never met a person he doesn't adore. Other dogs however, well, Redford needs some work in that area so for the last 6 months, two volunteers have been taking him to obedience classes.

Starting off slow at first, Redford was introduced to one dog.  After being comfortable with that, he then started puppy classes so that he could get more exposure to other dogs without feeling scared or threatened. Redford graduated from puppy class and is now attending adult doggy classes!

Although he still gets a little excited, he's come a long way these past few months and we're so proud of him! This sweet guy is still going to need some help to overcome his insecurities so we think it best that he go to a one-dog family and past experience with dogs would be a plus!

Redford is approximately 4 years old and this big lug's got enough charisma and charm to light Broadway! In fact, some say with his presence, he should have a career in the movies! Handsome, smart, dashing, that's our Redford - Come meet him for yourself during STAF adoptions on Thursday from 6:00-8:00pm or Saturday from 1:00-4:00pm and see what we mean.
