Save The Animals Foundation Newsletter

Greetings!
As we wrap up another year of saving the animals, we're reminded how critical every member of the STAF family is.  This Holiday E-News is devoted to expressing our sincere thanks for your involvement and support in 2008.

Over the past 6 months you've met some wonderful dogs and cats in our 'Resident Spotlight' articles.   Ben-Gal, the beautiful orange tabby who has learned to trust humans again; Josephine who came to us FELV+; and Georgia O'Keefe, our newest bi-paw resident. There's Sophia, who was found alone on the streets and brought to us, not only pregnant, but after her pups were born it was discovered she had a serious case of heartworm disease. And Paisley, a timid, shy girl who came to us a raggedy, grossly underweight stray, unsure of the world around her.

Not all shelters will accept a pregnant dog or a FELV+ or bi-paw cat, in fact, most won't.  Fortunately, STAF isn't one of those typical shelters. We believe every life is worth saving and because of your friendship and support; we've been able to help thousands of dogs and cats for the last 20 years. We thank you and look forward to another 20!

So, whether you attended a fundraising event, sponsored one of our residents, became a member of STAF or joined us for bingo, on behalf of all the animals and volunteers, thank you for being part of STAF!

Wishing you and your families a warm and wonderful holiday season,
Montana, Posey and all of us at Save The Animals Foundation
Resident Spotlight - MontanaMontana
Montana is a boxer mix who always has a smile on his face for the volunteers.  He is approximately 1 ½ years old and came to us back in the summer as a tightly wound ball of energy who desperately needed a lot of TLC and some basic training.

In the past 6 months, Montana has had lots of training and is now a dream to walk on a leash along with knowing some of the basic commands (sit, down, etc.)  His volunteer mentor, who affectionately calls him "Monty", has spent endless hours with him providing the love and affection he so desperately needed.  He has grown into a heck of a nice dog that anyone would be lucky to own.

Montana is bright, observant and eager to please.  He learns quickly and easily, responding to praise, treats and a firm, loving manner.  He was the absolute star of his training class and is extremely calm around other dogs and their handlers.  One of his favorite things to do is ride in the car and he is a great traveling companion.  He is a bit of a sun lover as well.  He loves to find a sunny spot out in one of the yards to stretch out and take in the sun.  It gets even better if he's got a volunteer to rub his belly at the same time - Montana heaven!!

Montana desperately wants to give his love and affection to a family of his very own and he has so much to give.  He has come such a long way since arriving at STAF and things will only get better when we can match him up with his forever family.

Montana will likely do best in a home with lots of dog experience so he can continue his training.  He has a tendency to be very protective and we've been working hard to redirect, but his forever family will need to continue working with him for further improvement.  He may do well in a quiet, adults-only home that can devote time to showing him that he can relax and let the humans do the protecting for a change!

We're hoping that Santa Claus is going to bring him that forever family he so greatly deserves!

Resident Spotlight - PoseyPosey
Hi !  My name is Posey and I'm a very special girl living at the shelter.

I came to STAF earlier this year from a wildlife rescue facility.  It's kind of a funny story...  I had wandered into the barn where several wild animals, much bigger than me, were recuperating from various injuries.

At first the rescue workers assumed I'd manage on my own to stay out of harms way, but after watching me walk into posts, off of steps, and finally dangerously close to an injured coyote, they realized that I'm completely blind.

Being a special needs girl, STAF was the only place in town that could help me with a place to stay, special care, and hopefully soon my forever home!

I live in room 9 with other kitties who are a bit slow-moving.  Just my pace! I've figured out where all the furniture is, learned what the food cart sounds like, and have my own spot in a really big basket that the sun hits just right in the morning. I even have a boyfriend now - Terry.  Terry is much older than I am, in his mid-teens, but he's also blind.  We love to sleep together, and clean the food off of each other's faces.  (He of course needs the cleaning much more than I do - typical man!)

But I'm not just a cat's cat - I love people too!  I recognize voices well, and know just how to move over to the bench for cuddle time.  My favorite thing is to be held and have my neck scratched.  In return, I like to rub my head under my holder's chin. It's a great feeling!

I hope as you read this you're realizing you have room in your home and heart for a very special girl with lots of love to give.  Stop in during adoptions and ask for me. I'd love to find my new home and family soon!
