Alumni-in-Action Breakfast
Tuesday, July 27, the Office of Alumni Relations held a breakfast celebration with President Stephanie Bergeron. The breakfast honored the recent accomplishments of alumni featured in the last Walsh College Journal.  The breakfast was held at the Somerset Inn and had good attendance from alumni throughout the metro Detroit area. Walsh College Visits Columbus Alumni!
Walsh College Marketing Manager Brenda Meller visited with Columbus-area alumni during a recent trip to Ohio. Walsh College went to Columbus to sign an articulation agreement with Columbus State
Community College. Under the agreement, students will be able to transfer 82 of their CSCC credits to Walsh College to complete a BBA degree online or enroll in the Honors Fast Track program to complete their associate’s, Walsh BBA and MBA degrees online five years, versus the traditional six.

Fall On-Campus Recruiting
On-campus recruitment interviews are available to Walsh College graduates and candidates for graduation. Career Services facilitates employment interviews with various companies and firms, which are held at the Troy and Novi campuses. Fall
on-campus recruiting is held during the months of October and November.

Preparation (resume and interviewing assistance) should be scheduled with Career Services in August. All positions are listed in eRecruiting. Students interested in public accounting should plan to participate in the fall campus recruiting season before their graduation.

Tutors Needed
Walsh College is looking for tutors for various subjects to help students in the upcoming year. Tutors choose their own hours, campus, number of students to tutor and the subjects that they would like to tutor. Tutors earn $9 an hour.

There will be two major components to this seminar:

MUST-HAVE POLICIES
Policies are necessary for all aspects of Library operations. Policies are also important tools to be used when dealing with patrons. Foster Swift Attorney Anne M. Seurynck will discuss which policies every library should have in place and provide some of the key provisions that should be included in those policies to help avoid a legal challenge. Patron Behavior Policies, Meeting Room Policies, Internet Use Policies and Record Retention and Confidentiality Policies will be the primary focus of this session.

AVOIDING EMPLOYMENT LAWSUITS
This interactive program will address preventative measures or action items for libraries to implement in an effort to limit liability to employment-related claims. Attorney Rebecca Davies will address not only preventative strategies but also new employment legislation and hot-button employment litigation issues affecting libraries.

Laurie Siebert is director of Career Services at Walsh College. Cheryl Carr is an outreach coordinator/advisor and Elayne Steinhardt is an advisor for Career Services. Together, they assist students and alumni in the pursuit of their career goals. Each is experienced with individual job search assistance, including job search techniques, practice interviews, and general career consultation. They also work with local businesses to help them recruit new employees from the qualified pool of Walsh graduates through on-campus recruiting, job fairs, and online job listings. Brenda Meller is the marketing manager at Walsh College, and has experience using social media such as LinkedIn.com as a job search and networking tool.

Walsh Announces 2010 Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Graduate of the Last Decade Recipients
Walsh is proud to announce that Dennis Harder (BBA 1991 & MSF 1994) is the recipient of the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award and Alexander Schwallbach (BBA 2004 & MSM 2006) is the recipient of the Distinguished Graduate of the Last Decade Award. Both will be honored at the Leadership Awards Dinner on November 13 at the Royal Park Hotel.

Mr. Harder currently sits on the Walsh College Foundation Board of Directors, is an adjunct professor of Finance and is co-chair of the Leadership Awards Executive Committee. In addition to his commitment to Walsh, he also serves as treasurer of the Michigan Humane Society. Mr. Harder is currently the managing director and head of MI Middle Market at the Private Bank.

“We are delighted to extend this prestigious award to Dennis,” Audrey Olmstead, Vice President, Chief Development Officer, said. “ He has given countless hours toward helping the College attain its goals while also achieving success as an adjunct professor and in his profession.”

Mr. Schwallbach currently sits on the Walsh College Alumni Association Board of Directors and is chairman and CEO of A.G. Schwallbach, Inc. He has participated in the Walsh College Foundation’s “Philanthropy in the Classroom” program, and he served as an ambassador travelling to Florida to meet with Walsh College alumni. Mr. Schwallbach was the first recipient of the Adams Fellowship at Walsh College.

Olmstead continued, “Both Dennis and Alex are exemplary alumni who are making a difference in southeast Michigan. We are proud to recognize them at our Leadership Awards event.”
