95th Walsh College Commencement
Walsh College held its 95th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Zion Christian Church in Troy. The event welcomed approximately 477 new graduates into the ranks of Walsh College alumni! The ceremony featured a keynote speech by Skillman Foundation President and CEO, Carol Goss. Alumni volunteers helped pass out padfolios to the newly minted graduates following the ceremony and sold flowers as well.

Stress Busters

Alumni Relations held an appreciation event for students on Thursday, June 10, 2010. Students were treated to an end of the year party with free food, games, give-aways and massage chairs.  The event was held in the Barry Center lobby and was well attended. This event was the first effort for the Walsh Student Network, a new program that focuses on student life
and student leadership at Walsh College.

On Campus Recruiting
On-campus recruitment interviews are available to Walsh College graduates and candidates for graduation. Career Services facilitates employment interviews with various companies and firms, which are held at the Troy and Novi campuses. Fallon-campus recruiting is held during the months of October and November. Preparation (resume and interviewing assistance) should be scheduled with Career Services in July and August. All positions are listed in eRecruiting. Students interested in public accounting should plan to participate in the fall campus recruiting season before their graduation.

Join fellow Alumni for B2B Networking and golf on Friday, August 20, 2010 for the Annual Walsh College Alumni Association Golf Outing at Pine Trace Golf Club in Rochester Hills.

Guests will enjoy B2B Networking, lunch at the turn, 18 holes of golf, buffet dinner, door prizes, 2 beverage tickets, hole-in-one contests, awards, and more! The event is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Foster Swift Attorney Anne M. Seurynck will discuss what policies every library should have in place and provide some of the key provisions that should be included in those policies to help avoid a legal challenge.
AVOIDING EMPLOYMENT LAWSUITS
This interactive program will address preventative measures or action items for libraries to implement in an effort to limit liability to employment-related claims. Attorney Rebecca Davies will address not only preventative strategies but also new employment legislation and hot-button employment litigation issues affecting libraries.

Dr. William K. Bateman, MSM 1992, was appointed provost of the Michigan Campus of Northwood University in Midland.

William E. Furr,
BBA 1977,
Co-Director of Recreation and Student Activities at Glen Oaks Community College, organized Glen Oaks' successful attempt to beat the Guiness Book of World for the largest meatball. The school now holds the world record with their 254 pound meatball, that fed over 900 people!

Kevin J. Husson, MBA 2009, accepted an account management position at Ogilvy & Mather in New York City.

Arthur O. Kelly, BBA 2007 & MBA 2009, and his wife Christi welcomed a son, Alex Owen Kelly to their family on June 30 at 8 lbs. 8 oz. and 19 inches long. Arthur, Christi and Alex are all doing well.

Kevin Kijewski,
MAE 2004, graduated from Michigan State University of of Law, and he is preparing to take the Michigan Bar Exam. Kevin also joined Northwood University and Lansing Community College, where he is teaching economics, law and political science.

Patrick D. Stuart, BAC 2003, has joined Stuart, Franey, Matthews & Chantres, P.C. as a staff accountant.


Laurie M. Van Pelt
,  MSF 1993, was the winner of the government category of the Crain's 'CFO of the Year Awards'.

Zibigniew A. Wozniacki, BBA 1983, was named a finalist in the Crain's 'CFO of the Year Awards'.
