Social Media Corner with Joanna Hamblin, Marketing Consultant
I had the pleasure of meeting Joanna at her photo shot with Gretje Ferguson Photography. I did her makeup and wardrobe for the shoot. I found her insite into the social networking scene interesting and helpful.
As a consultant, I partner with clients to help them with brand awareness campaigns, lead acquisition strategies and though leadership positioning. One new and important channel for addressing the above is social media. With over 300 million users on Facebook, 120 M on LinkedIn and 100 M Twitter - establishing a credible, engaging and respected online persona can help you land your next gig. Though this does not happen overnight, starting off with the right image can provide an instant visual queue. Think about it - if you are using social media outlets to find and connect with other colleagues, experts in the field, prospects and analysts - your profile picture is your unique signature and an excellent tool for making a good first impression. A big mistake I often see is using your child's image or a badly cropped wedding picture as a profile. Though I don't object to sharing personal pictures and stories in the appropriate context, if you are looking to build your professional network, I would stick to the professionals for your head-shot.
Naturally, partnering with Gretje and Lori was a no-brainer for me. Aside from a noticeably higher quality of Twitter followers I've received, my new profile picture on LinkedIn helps to jog the memory of folks I've invited to connect, and the benefits don't stop there. So don't delay in putting your best foot forward - or head.
