- What do I already own that will coordinate with this piece?
You should be able to think of 3 pieces. If not, don't purchase it or purchase the 3 pieces that same day while you have it.

- Do I own the appropriate shoes, socks or hose, undergarments, accessories or do I need to purchase them today?
- How often will I wear it?
Unless it is a special occasion purchase, if you cannot think of 5 times or more, it is probably not a wise purchase.
Trust your first instincts - you do or you don't, "sort of" is not good enough.
A second opinion may be helpful.
