   A Note From Jackie

    Increasing Energy Through Good Nutrition
Today's fast-paced work environment is filled with more responsibilities and pressures than ever before.
Do you wish for more hours in a day, or more energy to make things happen faster & more efficiently?
By practicing healthy nutrition habits you'll be better able to handle whatever comes your way!

Good Health & Family - Staying Healthy:
Keep your family's immune system healthy by preventing illness in the first place. Load up with fruits and
vegetables high in vitamins, minerals and other antioxidants that will help our body ward off disease.
Berries and vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, carrots &  tomatoes are great sources of antioxidants.

Stay physically active - let your family know it's a priority for you and your example will make all the
difference! Exercise together - post a schedule of activities on the refrigerator for everyone to choose
from. Experiment with inexpensive home equipment such as trampolines, boxing bags, frisbees, and
     hand held weights.

Find time for yourself - it's always important to make time for your own personal interests. The more run
down you are, the more susceptible to viruses and bacterial infections. Fatigue wears down our immune
     system and so does stress.

Stay hydrated - water carries nutrients and oxygen to all cells in the body, while helping convert food into
energy. Drink as many fluids as possible and instead of excess caffeine, try green tea. Have fun while
staying cool & hydrated by making popsicles from 100% fruit juice.

We Bring More to the Table

Making the Most of Family Meals...
Feeling guilty about not finding time to have dinner together as a family? Wondering if you're ever going to be able get everyone
to sit down at the same time?
There are some significant benefits! In addition to the nutritional advantages, there are social and academic benefits. The dinner table can be a place where children can learn vocabulary-building words that help them read well, conversational skills, and problem-solving skills by listening to parents talk about work and world events.

Introducing NutriFit's Fabulous Family Fare!

Here are five tips to help you make the most of your family dinner:

 1. Start with whatever meals are possible for you now. If it's breakfast together on the weekends, fine. Don't worry about what
you can't do, plan for what you can.

 2. Mealtime conversations can begin while you're getting food ready, getting the table ready, and  cleaning  up. Involve the family
in the whole process, and everyone will benefit not only from the conversation, but
from the life skills that are learned as well.

 3. Turn off the television and the radio. Unplug the phone or put on the answering machine. Don't let interruptions disrupt this
      special time.

 4. Try changing the location of the family meal once in awhile. How about an afternoon picnic, dinner on the patio or breakfast on
the biggest bed? Laughter is the best mealtime music - keep the conversation light
and avoid undue criticism.

 5. Make the menu work for everyone- includine family members in meal planning. Ask kids to help choose the meals you eat,
include them in weekly meal & school lunch planning. They'll enjoy the food that
much more!

What's in your child's lunch box?
Research from the University of Michigan Health System shows that more than one in three middle school students who regularly eat school lunches are obese or overweight! They're also more likely to have high LDL "bad" cholesterol levels than kids who bring lunch from home. Each day, over 30 million children are provided with reduced-cost or free lunches as part of the National School Lunch Program. The NSLP requires that lunches meet nutritional guidelines established by the USDA, however, these lunches often contain processed foods full of sugar, carbohydrates and sodium (which there is no maximum amount mandated by the USDA). Instead of highly processed snacks, whole fat dairy, and sugary desserts, send your children with the best nutritional start
in life by letting NutriFit™ Family Fare fill their lunch box! Lunch box items are now available on our Family Fare menu.

Jackie Weighs In

Healthy foods that don't cost a bundle
It's one of those myths that seems to persist: eating nutritious food has to cost a lot of money. While it might seem cheap and easy to grab a fast food option from the drive thru "dollar-menu" you probably aren't saving yourself any money and you certainly aren't doing yourself any favors by loading up on unhealthy foods. Remember that every dollar you spend on healthy food today is money you are saving on healthcare later.

10 suggestions for healthy eating habits:

 1. Shop for groceries from a list after a full meal
 2. Eat your meals at scheduled times, sitting down in the same place
 3. Serve food on smaller plates
 4. Put down your fork between and savor each mouthful, chewing thoroughly before swallowing your food.
 5. Drink liquids before and during your meals
 6. Take a break in the middle of a meal
 7. Substitute exercise for snacking - postpone snacking for 10 minutes
 8. Plan to limit your food intake by eating just until full
 9. Play soothing, quiet music during your meals. Try not to read or watch television while eating
10. Make your meals a special time for sharing

Do you recycle your containers?
We do, but we donate them as well!

"Our relationship with NutriFit has been strong and ongoing. The re-pur
posing of food containers donated by Jackie and her team has allowed me to cut down on food spoilage and waste. Some of
our most at risk clients are from time to time unable to make it in to our cafes or  pantry, now with
these re purposed containers, the
wonderful meals we produce here at St. Joseph Center can be delivered directly to them.Together we have  extended the environment of dignity and sharing, while helping to relieve the strain  on everyone's environment, Mother Nature!"- D.
