| Introducing our new Website!
Inner Fire Yoga is very proud to unveil a new website. Please take a little time to get acquainted with it. You can start by clicking the picture to the left. We think you will find it extremely helpful, informative, and beautiful.
As our student body continues to grow exponentially we are reaching higher to make the experience of registering for classes, massage, and workshops as smooth as possible.
Here are some helpful tips you can use right away:
- Signing up and purchasing online is now super easy. Just go to our website and click on any of the big orange buttons at the top of the screen, and you will be directed to the right place!
- You can also register friends and family online. When registering for a class, workshop, or massage, you will be prompted to select "myself" or "someone else."
|
Please read: Online Registration Facts
Registering for yoga classes online does not reserve a space in class. Please arrive 15 minutes before class starts, especially for our busier classes, to ensure your space in class. Pre-registering online will speed up the self-sign-in process, and will assist you in planning your yoga-schedule. For now, however, our yoga-classes are filled first-come-first-served.

Student Spotlight Anita Adams
I am an individual who has found yoga practice later in life (in my 50's) which has helped me immensely in my current career as a professional horse trainer. After 20 years in (and sometimes unexpectedly out) of the saddle, I have experienced some serious wear and tear on my body. Four years ago I started to practice yoga very sporadically. In the last seven months I have found "my flow" by committing to a more regular practice of at least 3-4 times a week. The difference it has made in my world is astounding. Problems that once seemed insurmountable in my personal life are now manageable, insights have grown clearer. Physical limitations from previous injuries and weaknesses have started to fade as my practice grows stronger. On top of all of this, I find it so satisfying and enjoyable. In addition to the classes, having Rich Schumann do his massage work has really helped me break through some chronic pain and stiffness that I had been experiencing for years. The opportunities that lie within the walls of Inner Fire Yoga Studio are enormous. I really have enjoyed working with the staff and getting to know the individuals that make it so special. It truly is a wonderfully supportive community and we are all lucky to be a part of it! Namaste

Rich Schumann, CMT
Why did you choose massage therapy? I received my first professional massage over ten years ago, and I was amazed at the benefits I received from one appointment. My first massage gave me a new awareness of muscles that I had not felt before, and convinced me to learn more about massage as a career, and to share the rewards of massage therapy. I graduated from Lakeside School of Massage Therapy in January 2008, and I have been working at IFY since April, 2008. What did you do before massage therapy? I have worked twenty years in the bicycle industry, as a printing press operator, commercial sheet metal, and even at Capitol brewery. The different experiences I have from a variety of jobs, have given me an appreciation having a career that contributes to the well being of others. Do you practice yoga? Yes, I am a big fan of the Hot Yoga classes. When I took my first yoga class, I thought I was in o.k. shape, being a bicyclist, and cross country skier. My first class was a humbling experience, and every class I've taken since then has been humbling too! Yoga, like massage has given me a better mind-body awareness. The improvement in my cross country skiing was noticeable, as I was able to ski in the American Birkebeiner last year, and still match my personal best time for the first time in ten years. What style of massage do you do? I develop treatment plans based on an individuals needs using Swedish massage as my base. I incorporate deep tissue, trigger point, and connective tissue for both sports massage, relaxation, and therapeutic strategies. I appreciate that every one has different goals on any given day, and try to tailor every massage to each individuals best benefit. I thank all the people who have given me the chance to grow my massage practice at IFY.
See Rich's current schedule now!

The Yoga Path
Goals and Intentions Marit Sathrum, Inner Fire Yoga Director/Owner Wow, it's hard to believe that it is 2010: the beginning of another new decade full of potential and opportunities! At Inner Fire Yoga, we have set our goals/intentions in writing. In general, our mission and values are the umbrella to our goals/intentions. (Read these in the left column of this newsletter or on the main page of our new website.) We strive to provide a supportive environment for each of you, an environment that will encourage the manifestation of your own positive goals and intentions. Here is a list of some of Inner Fire Yoga's intentions for the new decade:
- To provide a safe, inviting and clean space to learn and practice yoga, and receive massage therapy.
- To offer a peaceful oasis where students can let stress literally drip away.
- To encourage and elevate yoga practice through our positive, caring instructors and staff. To expand our community's physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing by providing inspiring workshops and other special events like the Personal Revolutions.
- To celebrate the abundance of our yoga community by regularly "giving back" in the form of making donations to charity organizations that help local and international families in need.
- To inspire all yogis to "live green" by sharing and modeling green ideas and practices.
- To attract a circle of like-minded friends to laugh and grow with.
- To encourage our students to lead lives of deliberate intention.
By putting our goals/intentions into words and sharing them with you, we are taking them out of the mental sphere and putting them into the physical. Thus we are turning them into conscious goals/intentions that are clear and focused. This in turn helps us to stay focused, and staying focused helps to successfully align the energy and details necessary to achieve or manifest.
For this reason we encourage you to consciously select where you'd like to place your focus, and what you would like to manifest this upcoming year and decade. Go ahead, deliberately choose your goals/intentions, big and small, and then put them into writing and share them with others. The shear act of knowing what you want and then "putting it into the physical" will set you on the fast-track to manifestation. Then, by staying focused (regularly review and edit what you have written down), you will find yourself moving steadily toward your goals, dreams and intentions until they are successfully achieved.
Happy New Year and Decade everyone! May it be filled with focused, positive goals/intentions and therefore successful manifestations. Marit Sathrum Owner/Director Inner Fire YogaŽ Center for Wellness www.innerfireyoga.com |

SAVE THE DATE! Power Yoga Master Class with Bryan Kest
Wednesday, March 10th 6:30-9:30pm ˇ $60 by March 7th $70 March 8 -10 Register now as this event is expected to sell out.
The Power Yoga Master Class will be a strong, well rounded, yet simple physical practice that leaves every nook and cranny in our bodies vibrating with vitality while challenging our minds in the sense of strengthening the qualities of mind that are most useful, positive and powerful, while eradicating the qualities of our mind that are harmful and stress inducing. It will strengthen qualities such as calmness, patience, focus, gentleness, gratitude, humility and acceptance, while weakening qualities such as judgment, competitiveness, distraction, reaction, and criticism.
Now 45, Bryan Kest has been practiciing yoga for more than 30 years. He initially studied in Hawaii with David Williams, the first person to bring Ashtanga yoga to America. He then studied in India with K. Pattabhi Jois, the main proponent of Ashtanga yoga. Kest has been teaching yoga for 26 years. "My primary objective," says Kest, "besides turning more and more people on to a healthier, more peaceful lifestyle that continually challenges them to grow, is to teach a system of exercise that fully integrates teh body, mind, and spirit. The new trend towards yoga is not surprising, given that the body is limited and the mind is limitless. The combination of body and mind creates an incredibly broad range of fulfillment, including top physical condition and a calm, peaceful, clear mind. Visit Bryan's website

January's Featured Yoga Pose
Dancer's Pose (Natarajasana) [na-tara-jahs-anna]
Natarajasana releases tension in the ankle and foot, opens the chest and lungs, strengthens the spine and legs, and stretches the thighs and shoulders, while developing a sense of balance and focus.
- In Tadasana (mountain pose), find a point to gaze at either eye level or on the floor. Shift weight onto one leg.
- Inhale and bend the knee of the other leg, bringing it back, grabbing hold of the ankle or foot with the hand of the same side. Establish your balance, then move the knees so they are aligned with the hip joints. Hold here for a moment, breathing into the stretch from the abdominal muscles into the quadriceps.
- Inhale and extend the opposite arm directly above the shoulder. Lengthen the arm and torso up and forward while lengthening the opposite leg back and up, eventually bringing the thigh parallel to the floor and the torso at an angle to the floor.
- As you hold the pose, breathe into the stretch on the inhalation and relax on the exhalation, creating an equal and opposite stretch forward through the arm and back through the leg. Allow the gaze (drishti) to rest slightly above the horizon.
- To release, slowly bring the torso back to the center. Release the bent knee and stand in Tadasana.
