Dear Inner Fire Yoga students, Friday is my last day, I'm moving with my wife to Oshkosh, WI. Thank you so much for making my last two years in Madison be the best. It has been a privilege getting to know you in class, at the desk and sometimes digging through the lost and found.
How cool it has been to witness your transformations into glowing - radiant - happy people. Peace and love to you all,
Michael Hoefferle Fellow Yoga Enthusiast
Note from Marit, Owner/Director: Good bye Michael from all of us, staff and students alike! Thank you for your dedicated and exceptional service. You will be missed. Student Spotlight Samirah Musah
My first Hot Yoga and Power Flow classes were beyond challenging... However, with the help of the fantastic instructors at Inner Fire Yoga, I realized that yoga was unquestionably the thing for me. In addition to improving my physical and mental well-being, I found a way to not let anyone or anything steal my peace. For that, I will be forever grateful.

Meet Our New
General Manager Megan Bjella, CYT, RYT Megan began practicing yoga in high school and continued to practice casually through her early college years. Before entering her senior year at Lawrence University, Megan dedicated herself to a regular practice. Experiencing first-hand the life-changing benefits of yoga, she felt called to share its limitless gifts with others. She went on to receive her 200-hr yoga teacher certification through Midwest Power Yoga-a Baptiste affiliate studio in Appleton, Wisconsin-under the instruction of Deborah Williamson as well as several other gifted and inspiring teachers. Megan aims to combine her love of yoga with her environmental activism while sharing her compassion, humor, and love of life. She is thrilled to be part of the thriving yoga community in Madison and feels that her journey has just begun. |
 Introducing New Teacher and Receptionist
Karen Erstad, CYT, RYT
Karen got a taste of yoga a few years ago before the birth of her first child in 2004, and then rediscovered and took her practice to the next level in 2007 when her second child was 15 months old. She loves yoga because it's a physical challenge that connects mind, body and spirit, and she particularly enjoys the mental clarity and sense of peace and awareness she arrives at by the end of a rigorous practice. Karen also loves how the benefits of yoga branch out to every part of her life: as she balances, strengthens and aligns her body on her mat during asana practice, this helps her to live with greater balance, strength and focus off the mat. This ability to take yoga off the mat is something she hopes her students develop and find helpful, as well, since those open to the transformative power of yoga will begin to witness their lives change in wonderful ways.
In her classes, Karen guides students through an asana practice geared toward opening and strenthening their minds and bodies so they can reach their edge, go beyond and grow! In the spring of 2009, Karen completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training program, preparing her to teach power vinyasa flow yoga in the tradition of Baron Baptiste. She has also attended a weekend workshop with master yoga teacher Rolf Gates. |
Introducing New Receptionist
Reid Tice
After an entire semester of Professor Chris Vaughan promoting his yoga practice to his class, Reid decided to tag along and see what all the fuss was about. But having the sense of direction of a lemming, he got lost, arriving a half hour late. However, after a half hour relaxing in the studio talking to Michael and reading Bikram's book, the studio's energy left Reid feeling calmer, softer, and more content. One could say he was hooked on yoga before even practicing! He subsequently began attending classes and has been overjoyed at finding an activity that focuses and clears his scattered mind while convincing his shy fingers to meet his toes for the first time in their life. Reid is thoroughly enjoying the stimulating variety of teachers and students that come through Inner Fire daily, each with something unique to offer. Reid will be a first-year senior at UW Madison this fall, majoring in Biological Aspects of Conservation. He splits his time between jobs, school, training for the upcoming Madison Marathon, and directing the Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) on campus. DLS is an organization tasked with broadening minds by booking engaging scientists, activists, authors, humanitarians and other movers and shakers of society. Keep an eye out for flyers promoting upcoming lectures! If he doesn't yet know your name, he apologizes and promises to learn it soon. He would like you to know that having a foolish dance or jingle to accompany your name will dramatically shrink the learning curve. |

August's Featured Yoga Pose
Rabbit (Sasangasana)
Rabbit is an inverted yoga pose that provides excellent traction on your back and shoulders. It also balances your hormones, stimulates your thyroid gland and improves your immune capacity.
Step 1
Kneel on your mat/towel, knees and feet together. Reach around and grab your heels tightly, thumbs on the outside of your heels. Don't let go!
Step 2
Roll forward and press your forehead on your knees. You may not make it. If not, try walking your knees up to meet your head rather than compressing your neck to meet your knees. Avoid looking around at this point while you neck is in this compressed position.
Step 3
Breath deeply and slowly over time create a rounded spine. This pose is generally held for up to 30 sec.

Upcoming Workshop
Jonny Kest
Stay tuned for dates (either December 2009 or January 2010).
"I have spent years sampling different Yoga styles and attending various workshops, conventions and Teacher Training's, searching for the right one. I don't have to look any further, this (Jonny Kest training) is it. It was here I learned the true essence of Yoga. It is not the perfect pose but to be able to take Yoga off my mat and into my daily life. As I now begin to see myself remaining steady amidst the turbulence of life, equanimity is no longer just a word I didn't understand. It is hear I learned to "Live my Yoga." "When the student is ready, the teacher appears." Kim Hubbarth, Previous workshop attendee This 20 hour Weekend Teacher Training is open to all levels, yoga teachers and students alike. |
