| Happy Summer Yogis and Yoginis!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE summer. AND I love love love practicing hot yoga in the summer. Or perhaps I should say my body and mind love love love it. The depths of the poses - without the associated difficulty and pain - are much greater in the summer. So if you are one yogi who has "fallen off your mat" because of the hot weather: step back on and reap the benefits! Be sure to add in a massage therapy session (or two or three) - the same truth applies: the body is more open and thus the benefits of the massage are greater.
Be sure to check our new "Coming Soon" column below because Inner Fire Yoga is ramping up it's workshop schedule over the coming year, and we've already booked several amazing traveling yoga masters.
Thank you everybody for practicing yoga at Inner Fire Yoga! We are in constant amazement at the difficult and transforming work you do in the yoga classroom: truly inspiring and uplifting.
Namaste,
Marit Sathrum
Owner/Director

PS Be sure to visit Sundance 608 today through Tuesday to see "Enlighten Up", a documentary film about a yoga-skeptic transformed by the practice.

I started attending IFY classes last summer, and it has been a great experience practicing yoga here. You know you are furthering and developing your practice and at the same time gaining physical benefits that you take with you outside the studio, benefits of strength conditioning, increased flexibility, better balance, and greater endurance. I do a lot of walking and running and I can feel a real improvement in terms of balance and endurance especially. The instructors know their art and how to teach it to others, and they understand the intangibles as well, how yoga is more than the poses and forms the basis for a way of looking at and experiencing the world in a positive way. The sense of well-being and peace that I derive from my classes is difficult to quantify but it is very real and welcome in what can sometimes be a stressful life. Recently I was inspired by a woman who received recognition in class and a bracelet for reaching the Throat Chakra by attending 700 classes. It was great to see and hear the response of the class to her accomplishment. Seeing her honored like that was a good example of the mutual support and sense of community that you'll find at IFY. No matter what level of Chakra I might reach, I know I'll enjoy each class along the way.

Megan Brown
Megan started practicing yoga in 2002 in order to alleviate stress. She stuck with it because of the joy it brought to replace the stress. Also, she continued to practice because of the community that grew from people being happy and healthy. After moving to Madison, she found that practicing yoga supported her other hobbies and kept her more aware of her body, so that she could better avoid injury. Megan decided to become a teacher so that she could share her love of yoga and connect it to other styles of movement. Learning to teach yoga gives her the foundation to build strength and move creatively in Contact Improvisation and Low Flying Trapeze. She trained with Feel Your Best Yoga out of Mequon, WI in 2008. Megan teaches Bikram and many levels of flow yoga.
In her other life, she is a mild mannered graduate student working towards her Ph.D. She studies the effect of dialect differences on childrens' reading acquisition.
