Have You Seen the Casita? And It's Donation Time!!

Who's been Sol'd? Check our Facebook site and find out! Follow our Casita as it travels through the EBI Community. The Hacienda del Sol Casita embodies the momentum, creativity and spirit of our fantastic school, and we hope as many families as possible participate and get in on the fun of housing it as we lead up to this year's auction and gala. Pass it on yourself or contact the auction/gala team (auction@ebinternacional.org), and we'll take it off your hands for a mere $25 donation to EBI.

The success of the auction for EBI counts on all of us. If you haven't submitted a donation or pledged one, they are due March 9. It's easy to donate...

Four easy ways:

1) ask friends, family, and local businesses to donate goods or services;

2) donate something directly - we'll even take cash;

3) organize a party or outing as a donation; or

4) tell the auction team about your idea and they will help you put it together with other families.

Ready, Set, Enter your donation now. Visit the Auction Web site to enter donations, view donations from others, and buy tickets!

See you on April 14 for Hacienda del Sol at the Claremont Hotel and Spa!

No Bully Workshop for EBI Families!
No Bully for Parents
Over 35 parents, faculty, staff and board members came together to learn more about continuing to create a safer environment for all of our children at EBI. A consultant from No Bully, an anti-bullying organization based in San Francisco, joined our community to share her expertise.

Pre-Kinder: Recycle
Reciclaje.Pre-Kinder
Pre-Kinder Azul and Rojo went on a field trip to the Berkeley Recycling Center to launch their third unit of inquiry entitled: "Planet Earth Is our Mother". This unit engages students in inquiry and reflection on our responsibility as humans to reduce, reuse and recycle.
This field trip gave students the opportunity to see and learn about the various ways that humans can reduce the amount of landfill waste they generate by recycling daily.
Kindergarten: From Here to There
Kindergarten. From Here to There
During the Unit of Inquiry "From Here to There," parents have been visiting the Kindergarten classrooms to talk to the students about their personal histories. Some parents have brought in photos and maps to help illustrate the various events that have taken place in their family histories. Kindergarteners are beginning to grasp the concepts of past, present and future and gain a deeper understanding of the richness of their family histories!
First Grade: How We Express Ourselves

Our creative and risk-taking first graders had an opportunity to participate in a two-day theater workshop. The story builders workshop was led by and actor/teacher from the Berkeley Repertory School of Theater.

Participating in the workshop gave the students the opportunity to further explore their central idea: Literature expresses values, feelings and emotions that develop the imagination.

Second Grade: Migrations
Migrations. Second GradeIn this Unit (Where we are in Place and Time), the Second Graders have been exploring animal and people migrations. They have been sharing their own migration stories, and they have been charting them on maps. We are truly an international community! Some students have migrated from as far as England and from throughout the Bay Area as well. People in our community have been sharing their migration stories, which help us reflect on our culture and our environment.

Third Grade: Using Maps to Learn
Maps
Third Grade students are exploring and applying concepts of geography. They used longitude and latitude to locate different countries in the world. Students researched to find the longitude and latitude for different parts of the world like Rio de Janeiro, Madagascar and different parts of the United States. They also explored Math concepts like estimation and calculating and plotting points.
Fourth and Fifth Grade: Measurement
Meaurement. Fourth and Fifth Grade
Students in the 4th and 5th grade have been studying the measurement of various shapes. This group has been developing an understanding of the measurement of triangles, quadrilaterals and circles. Here, we see a 4th grade student working to cut out and find the measurement of various shapes in square inches. Students then needed to organize their shapes by size. To further their understanding, students were asked to write a reflection on their learning, challenges they faced and insights they gained.
Desde un rincón lejano de la biblioteca...
Congratulations to the 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders for making good use of the ever-increasing Spanish fiction collection in the West Campus library. Some of their favorite titles this month?  La Fórmula del Doctor Funes by Francisco Hinojosa, Cuentos de Apolo by Hilda Perera and 95 Libras de Esperanza by Anna Gavalda.
