Greetings!
Welcome to our first installment of Curtain Call: SYO Edition! This newsletter is an extension of the popular subscriber-based email periodical of the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts.
SYO Edition aims to provide information for and about the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra. The newsletter will focus on its members, upcoming concerts, tours, special programs, and will provide general information beneficial to young musicians, educators, and the musical community.
SYO Edition will strive to enhance the channels of communication between the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra, school music programs, and the students they serve. Anyone is invited to subscribe and reader input is greatly appreciated.
We also hope to entertain and enlighten as well as inform, so join us! |
2009-2010 SYO Member Roster |
The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra supports all school music programs -- members of the SYO are required to participate in their school band or orchestra.
We also acknowledge the high school, jr. high, and elementary school music programs that prepare and encourage participation in the SYO.
The 2009-2010 SYO roster lists all members by school.

Happy 20th SYO! |
To celebrate 20 years of enriching the community through music, the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra held a gala concert performance at Chicago's Symphony Center on Friday, July 10.
Over 600 in attendance enjoyed a program performed by current and former orchestra members. Selections included the finale from Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto (with SYO alum Katie Hamada on piano), Smetana's The Moldau, the Finale from Dvorak's New World Symphony, and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, featuring all 130 participating musicians.
Schaumburg Village President Al Larson addressed the audience to commemorate the event and reflect on the achievements of the award-winning program, stressing that the SYO has "become Schaumburg's ambassadors of goodwill, proving time and again that the arts are thriving in a community that itself is comparatively young."
Special thanks go to the C-Note donors, whose total contributions of $6,500 helped make the anniversary concert possible. |
