Audre Lorde Legacy Film & Culture Festival - Fall 2012 Presented by German filmmaker and scholar Dagmar Schultz and Afro-German writer Ika Hügel-Marshall, the Audre Lorde Legacy Film & Culture Festival will honor African American lesbian poet Audre Lorde and her legacy to social justice movements in the United States and Germany. The festival will make stops in nine educational institutions including the University of Hawai'i, University of California, Berkeley, Sonoma State University, Goethe Institute in San Francisco, University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, Harvard University, University of Massachusetts and Hunger College. Filmmaking and Crowdsource Fundraising with Filmmaker Deann Borshay Liem
Deann Borshay Liem, the celebrated maker of First Person Plural and In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee, is now working on two new docs, Geographies of Kinship: The Korean Adoption Story and Memory of Forgotten War. She will show clips from her latest two films, talk about the making of her films and working with Kickstarter - where she has had enviable success! A lesson in "to-dos" and "not-to-dos" in crowdsource fundraising.

David Morrison, Executive Director of The Indie Film Clinic at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law will talk on fair use issues and shed some light on legal concerns in the digital domain for independent filmmakers - and how the Indie Film Clinic might be helpful to you. The award-winning filmmaker, Byron Hurt, a TWN workshop alum, will talk about the making of his new film, Soul Food Junkies. Byron will talk about the journey of his film production, how he managed to get it produced and the impact it has had on his own life and family. Cosponsored with the Media and Communication Arts Department and the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies at City College, and the Black Documentary Collective.
