The Other Side of the Water at DC Caribbean Filmfest
The Other Side of the Water follows a group of young immigrants who take this ancient music from the hills of Haiti and reinvent it on the streets of Brooklyn. The documentary tells the story of an unlikely band that comes to speak for a larger community, and a music that manages to create a new meaning of home in the Diaspora.

MacArthur supports U.S.-based independent documentary filmmakers for the production and distribution of social-issue documentary films intended for a broad audience. The Media, Culture, and Special Initiatives program is accepting proposals for 2011 documentary film grants on an ongoing basis until June 1, 2011. Latino Producers Academy NALIP's 2011 Latino Producers Academy (LPA) is now accepting applications for the August program in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Documentary and Narrative projects will benefit from comprehensive skills development. Cinereach Summer 2011 Cinereach supports feature-length nonfiction and fiction films that are at the intersection of engaging storytelling, visual artistry, and vital subject matter. Moving Image Fund LEF New England launched the Moving Image Fund (MIF) in 2002 to support independent film and video artists creating new work. In its transition from a broader to a more defined funding strategy, LEF is currently focusing MIF support on documentary filmmaking. Through MIF, LEF provides funding across all phases of production, supporting films from the early risk-taking stage, through a film's completion.
