Third World Newsreel is pleased to announce its collaboration with City-As-School high school in a Camera-to-Classroom workshop, made possible with the support of the Tribeca Film Institute and Chase. This Spring, students from City-As-School will learn social issue documentary production - and make their own films in this pilot workshop program. Thanks to Tribeca, Chase and the City-As-School folks!

Third World Newsreel and NewFilmmakers Series are proud to present Jeong-hyun Mun's Grandmother's Flower, preceded by Asian Girls Empowerment through Media (AGEM) shorts. Join us on Wednesday, May 12th from 6-8PM.

When director Mun accidentally discovered the diaries of his late granduncle, who was mentally ill, he unexpectedly learned about his family's secret history.

TWN has trained over 400 film and video artists of color in the past 30 years through its annual TWN Film & Video Production Workshop. In 2009, with the support of the Asian Women Giving Circle, TWN presented the AGEM Summer Workshop, a program of media literacy and production where 12 Asian young women produced five videos. Join us for a screening shorts by AGEM students: Erica Chen, Rena Chen, Tenzin Choedon, Ariela Farnham, Michelle Kwong, Silas Luk, Linda Luo, Tasmiah "T" Mosobbir, Claudia von Nostitz, Aastha Vohra, Wendy Yuan Zhang and Cathy Zhu.

Homeward is a film series at the Maysles Cinema which explores the concept of home. Here to Stay, directed by ManSee Kong, Illustrates the effects of gentrification in Manhattan's Chinatown as an elderly man and fellow tenants in endangered single-room occupancy building await the results of an anti-eviction lawsuit.

In My Genes at African Film Festival New York
The 2010 New York African Film Festival, presented under the banner Independent Africa, spotlights 17 African nations, as they observe 50 years of independence from colonial rule. In My Genes, a documentary that shares the lives of 8 people with albinism in Kenya, is one of the films selected to be screened. Directed by Lupita Nyong'o, 78 min.

National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) seeks recent graduates, community organizers, web-based professionals, and others who share these same interests to apply for a fellowship with the Public Media Corps. Applicants for whom Spanish is a first or second language are highly desirable and encouraged to apply. Applicants MUST be from or living in Washington, DC or the surrounding locales.

Native American Public Telecommunications announces its annual open call for proposals from filmmakers. Proposals are requested for programs in many genres including documentary, performance, cultural/public affairs and animation. Projects submitted to this solicitation must be intended for national public television broadcast.

PIC Media Fund Rolling Call
Members of the Pacific Islanders in Communications filmmaking community are encouraged to submit proposals for public television projects at the research and development (R&D), production, and completion stages. R&D projects may be awarded up to $15,000, and production and completion projects may be awarded up to $50,000.
