HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Third World
Newsreel's board, staff,
volunteers and interns wish you a joyful
holiday season, with hopes for a safe and
healthy new year. We would like to express
our great appreciation for your support of
our programs this past year, and ask you to
help us continue the work of advancing and
nurturing media by and about people of color
and social justice issues. The vision of the
original Newsreel collective - alternative
media that spurs action for change - is as
important today as it was 40 years ago. As
you know, the current economic downturn has
had a profound impact on all of our lives,
individually and collectively. In spite of
this, TWN is continuing its successful
workshops and much needed services for the
independent media and social justice
community.
This past year has seen both our production
training workshops and screening events
increase in popularity and attendance. TWN's
outreach and collaborative efforts with
diverse constituencies has been extremely
successful, with plans for more significant
shared endeavors with community organizations
in 2010.
TWN is asking you to support this important
work. You can help us to sustain high quality
services to the community and foster the
creation and appreciation of social issue
media. We recognize that today, every dollar
counts, so we hope that you will contribute
whatever you can manage.

With your generous support, and in the spirit
of social change and progress, TWN will
continue to empower and advance the social
concerns and media work of our diverse
communities.

TWN Film & Video Production
Workshop Application Deadline: January 8th!
The TWN Film & Video Production Workshop is a
unique "hands- on" program that provides practical
skills for emerging
film and video makers.
Emphasizing the training of people of color and other
marginalized communities with limited resources and
access to mainstream educational institutions, this 6
month intensive program goes through script
development, production and post production, with
training in 16mm and digital techniques, and editing
on Final Cut Pro.
Workshop graduates work in the industry, teach,
and include Academy Award nominees
and Emmy winning filmmakers. Instructors and
guest speakers are working media
professionals.
The Production Workshop begins in early
February and meets every Thursday evening, with
shoots on weekends. Prior film,
video or related experience is recommended
but not required; creativity,
self-initiative, time and a collaborative
spirit are. The selection to the Production
Workshop is limited to 9 participants. An
initial written application is required and a
second round of applicants are selected for
interviews. The cost of the 2010 workshop
will be $600.
