Adding a New Pet to Your Pack

Dr. Janine Franco reports....
We all love having pets.  They are our family members, friends and companions.  Sometimes we enjoy them so much we decide that we'd like to adopt another dog or cat deserving of a great home.  The tricky part comes when we are ready to introduce that new family member to the rest of our four-legged pack.  There are a few simple but important things to consider and plan for when bringing a new animal into your family.

Saying Goodbye

Chamblee, a much loved friend and team member, says goodbye...

I knew The Village Vets, prior to joining its team, through the dog rescue work I had been doing for several years. It was because I knew The Village Vets to be very "rescue friendly" that I chose it as a place to settle down. Even so, I couldn't have imagined how much I would come to love the job, the people and, of course, all the thousands of dogs and cats I'd meet. My team members are like family. Many clients have become my close, personal friends. Each and every animal I love as if it were my own. But the most rewarding part of my job has been working with rescue groups and clients to help homeless and abused dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Seeing these animals coming from terrible situations to becoming healthy and being adopted to loving homes is possibly the greatest blessing of my life.

PRODUCT ALERT !!!
Diamond Pet Food Recalls

As of May 5, 2012, Diamond Pet Foods has expanded their

voluntary recall to include nine brands of dry pet food formulas due to potential Salmonella contamination.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, multiple brands of dry pet food produced by Diamond Pet Foods at a single manufacturing facility in South Carolina have been linked to some of the human Salmonella infections.  In April, 2012, Diamond initiated recalls of three of their dry dog food products including -  Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice, Diamond Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Adult Light, and Diamond Puppy Formula.  Although none of the additional products have tested positive for Salmonella, the company is pulling them from store shelves as a precaution.

More information on these recalls can be found on the  FDA website.  Consumers may also contact Diamond Pet Foods with any questions at (800) 442-0402 or visit  www.diamondpetrecall.com.
