MY Dog . . . Overweight??
| |
It's that time of year again when in preparation for spring I put away the winter clothes and really get serious about the New Year's resolution - the one I made over two months ago. I lace up my running shoes and head out the door with my trusted running partner, Tusker - an 83 pound chocolate labradoodle. Wait! Eighty-three pounds? It's happened...MY dog is overweight! Exercise, diet and moderation are terms that don't just apply to me - and now I'm faced with the daunting prospect of encouraging weight loss and preventing obesity in the most food-driven animal I know. With this in mind, I thought I would share the importance of recognizing risk factors that contribute to a pet's potential for an above average weight and the health risks to your pet associated with being overweight.

Our Handsome "Rogue" Needs a Home
| |
Like so many before him, our first encounter with "Rogue" was when he was presented to TVV Decatur Emergency. He was picked up by animal control and like so many of the others, he was in obvious need of emergency medical care. It was not the protruding ribs, nor the obvious signs of neglect and malnutrition but rather, he had a very large and gaping wound - quite suspicious in nature - around his throat. Unlike others before him, however, other than his serious neck wound, he was in relatively good health. He obviously needed a consistent diet of nutritious food, as well as consistent love and attention. With that regimen . . . what a difference a month can make!!! Our Rogue is truly a gift that keeps on giving. He deserves to be what he was intended to be all along - someone's pet to love and to cherish.
Rogue is an American Bulldog mix, so he's a big boy, just under 80 lbs! He's just barely past puppyhood at approximately 3 years old. He has learned very good manners in foster care living at the home of one of TVV team members for the past 8 months. He is ready and awaiting the opportuity to have his forever home once and for all. Please contact our Rescue Coordinator at TVV Decatur, Chamblee Abernethy at the email link below, for more information on Rogue, as well as other rescue pets - cats and dogs - that are available for adoption.
