Training Tip of the Month: How Much to Train?
If your training plan gives a range of times for rides, more is better so long as you finish still strong. Training when you are already tired is not as productive as training when you are fresh, so once you are tired it's better to head home than to drag yourself through extra hours.
Make a point of doing the long end of your range of training times as a single block at least once per week. Long rides actually have some specific benefits that you don't get from the same amount of training time broken up into smaller chunks. At the same time, you only need the long ride once per week to get those benefits. On all the other days, if you get at least your minimum time, you'll do okay, though again getting more is better so long as you finish strong. Ask your coach for more details.

Sports Psychology Q&A: Overcoming Fear After a Major Crash by Expert KC Wilder, PhD
Q. I had a pretty major crash in a criterium two years ago. I cracked my helmet in two and separated my left shoulder in the crash. I took a year off from cycling so that I could rehab my shoulder and find the confidence again to mix it up in a criterium. How do I overcome my fear and get my confidence back?
A. Excellent question. Fostering cycling confidence is sometimes easier said than done. Cycling can be an intimidating and sometimes dangerous sport. As you know first-hand, crashes can and will happen in bicycle racing. I am going to do my best to help you overcome your fear of crashing to achieve your cycling goals.
