Tech Article: Build Your Own Aero Helmet by Coach Nitish Nag
Everybody knows that professional teams and riders spend thousands of dollars on aerodynamic equipment for time trials and track events, and for wind tunnel testing time. This money is well spent for these riders, as aerodynamic resistance is the biggest limiter at speeds above 15 miles per hour (Burke 2003).
For the cyclist with only a road bike entering a time trial race, the options are limited. Clip-on bars save about 30 watts of power at 40kph (25 mph), and an aero-helmet can save about an additional 10 watts at 40 kph. (Cyclingnews 2008). But what happens when you are a broke college student or neo-pro living in the back of your van? That's when you take Poorman's Aerodynamics 241.

Winter Training Tip
When you train in very cold and/or wet conditions, there's a decent
chance you'll come home cold. Then you may face several unpleasant
hours trying to get warm again, or you can try this trick: When you get
home, strip off wet clothing and jump on the trainer, without a fan
this time. In 10 or 15 minutes on the trainer you can generate far more
heat than you could ever absorb from hours of hot showers or beverages.

Featured Article: MTB Course Inspection by Coach Aaron Oakes
Whether the mountain bike season starts this weekend or is still several months away for you, it is never too early to start planning for successful races. A thorough course inspection can make a big difference in mountain bike racing success. Courses are often marked a day before race day; check with the promoter to see if and when pre-riding is allowed.
The main sections to look for during your inspection of the course are: places to eat and drink, places to pass, and places to attack. Let's look at the criteria that define these places so you will be able to find them during your course inspection.
