Greetings!
The end of July is always a conflicting time for cyclists. We have the joy of watching three to five hours of Tour de France on tv everyday, knowing that we should be out on our own bikes but with the knowledge that the Tour will soon end. Riding with back pain is also one of those conflicts that many cyclists experience. Check out our article on the spine and cycling this month for information on the importance of your spine health and your performance.
This month we welcome new coach James Hibbard of Campbell, CA, and as always we have the Resource of the Month, Quote of the Month and a ton of Client Successes!
We welcome your feedback. Please write to newsletter@wenzelcoaching.com or call 503-233-4346 with your comments, race stories and ideas.~ Kendra Wenzel, Scott Saifer, and the Staff of Wenzel Coaching |
We have all had those long or tough days on the bike when our body is telling us it would rather be sitting on the couch watching cycling videos. I'm not talking about the normal pain in the legs, or the burning lungs. I'm referring to the pain in your lower back or that pinching feeling in your neck with that oh-so-pleasurable pain running down the inside of your scapula (also known as your shoulder blade). Maybe you're even getting that most enjoyable loss of feeling in your hands to go along with it.
This isn't necessarily another "bike fit" article, though hopefully at this point you have realized just how important a good fitting bike is. I'm going to take it one step further and look at another major cause of discomfort on your bike, your spine.

Quote of the Month
"If you try to win you might lose, it you don't try to win you lose for sure."
~Jens Voigt, Team CSC and two-time Tour de France stage winner

Resource of the Month: Street Views of the 2008 Tour de France
Now you can see what the Tour looks like from the vantage point of the cyclist. Google Maps contracted someone to drive the entire Tour de France route to capture a Street View of all the routes. Now you can see how brutal Hautacam and L'Alpe-d'Huez really are.
The websites found in the "Resource of the Month" are in no way associated with Wenzel Coaching and we are not responsible for any information they contain.
