Is professional development through
collaborative technologies

really effective?

Doug Johnson, teacher in Michigan City, Indiana says, "Yes!"

After attending a professional development session via webinar with Jeff Harker on homework, Doug states,
"It is true that Jeff Harker's webinar had a positive impact on my classroom.   I reassessed my homework policy and realized that it had to be adjusted to meet middle school realities of current times.  I reduced the frequency by half to two night/week and insisted on students involving their parents by getting planners signed weekly that results in a little extra credit of ten points.  Over the course of a grading period, this has a very positive cumulative effect.  The bigger issue is that I am cultivating a connection to parents in order to enhance their involvement in their children's academic growth.  I have made some clear decisions as a direct result of this webinar."
