Education Secretary Celebrates Citizen Schools
On May 19th, twenty-nine Citizen Schools Teaching Fellows recieved their Master's in Education from Lesley University. During his commencement address, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan celebrated Citizen Schools, saying, "That work is close to my heart." He referenced our Lesley partnership to develop the first master's degree program in out-of-school time as one of the top innovations in the school's 100-year history.

We've been selected to join this summer's round of the highly competitive Members Project® from American Express and TakePart. The organization with the most votes by August 31st wins $200,000, a grant that would allow Citizen Schools to open a new campus and teach an additional 1,300 students.  Please vote and consider joining our Facebook event group for reminders to vote and fun stories and photos.
 
Citizen Teachers Honored with President's Service Award 
Citizen Schools is proud to announce 225 Citizen Teachers will recieve a President's Service Award for their commitment to teaching apprenticeships and partnering with Citizen Schools to transform education in middle schools across the country. Read more>>

Citizen Schools Receives Increased AmeriCorps Grant
With support from the AmeriCorps national service program, Citizen Schools will expand our Teaching Fellowship program by 80% in 2010-2011, engaging 235 aspiring educators in full-time service.  AmeriCorps recently awarded $3 million to Citizen Schools, a substantial increase over prior years.  Read more>>
