Panama City International Airport Groundbreaking
The long awaited groundbreaking took place
November 1, 2007.
Bay and Walton County along with State officials, including the Regional Airport Authority held the groundbreaking ceremony on the property donated by the St. Joe Company. The airport property covers 4000 acres. St. Joe has also donated thousands of acres surrounding West Bay for conservation land and has partnered with the National Audubon Society to create a world-class, state of the art Nature Center in NW Florida. The Center will explore and celebrate the environmental heritage of NW Florida by promoting education and research programs focusing on our native habitat and wildlife. The West Bay Conservation Area in which the Audubon Center will be located comprises close to 41,000 acres. There are also:
· 66 square miles of important watershed surrounding
West Bay.
· 33 miles of shoreline
· 44 miles of buffers along creeks and tributaries
The new airport should be finished in the first quarter of 2010 and will provide a gateway to Northwest Florida from all parts of the US as well as Europe and South America. We are excited to experience this project from "take off" and watch the positive changes it will make for our area in jobs, convenience, commerce and thoughtful development and growth.

As a reminder of why we live/invest/visit here - take a look. Traveling along Scenic 30A late one afternoon, Kitty came upon this scene of Stallworth Lake in the Dune Allen area. What made it all the more special-it had rained the previous 4 days straight. Kitty's son used to say "We have our own Sistine Chapel" here and we wholeheartedly agree!
