She's the Breadwinner, He's the House-Husband
Jennifer bought her condo at 26 and married her
husband 6 years later. Now 38 and an investment
advisor, she gently refers to herself as a professional
woman who is trying to support her family and love her
husband. However, she considers herself a realist
when it comes to not knowing what the future brings.
Because her husband has 3 kids from a previous
marriage to a "vindictive" woman, Jennifer has taken
steps to protect the equity that she worked very hard to
build over the years. She very tentatively and delicately
brought up the subject of whose assets were used
(hers) to build the home they currently live in and he
gave her no static about it. He had no problem signing
a deed relinquishing his rights in the property.
Jennifer's case is still somewhat unique in today's
society because she is the breadwinner. Her husband
stays at home with their two children, now 4 and 2-1/2.
(Jennifer brags that he does laundry and keeps an
immaculate house!) She tries very hard to be
the "delicate flower" that she feels her former military
husband needs her to be...

Contract Negotiator or Stage Actress?

The best negotiator needs to have elements of "shut
up" and "dramatic flair" in order to effect a smooth
transaction with a sale or purchase of real estate. As I
told a client recently, "less is more" when it comes to
giving up too much information about what you're
willing to do for a buyer or concede to a seller.
Even the savviest of real estate investors can give up
too much information, especially when they're proud of
and even bragging about their properties. I remember
having to do the proverbial "kick-the-client-under-the-
table" with one such savvy investor! Smart investors
always know the value of a great REALTOR...

Homeownership & Long-Term Financial Security

Baby Boomers who own a home have a distinct
advantage over those who rent, when it comes to long
term financial security. For instance, homeownership
expands a senior's options by providing a pool of
equity they can tap in a pinch. This month we'll focus
on the effect on female baby boomers although this
same information can apply to both men and women.
